I disagree i think the action from the both Hobbit movies is better and so is the comedy.
I think the Avengers by no means comes even close to the Hobbit the Avengers action wasnt even close to the Hobbit i mean what would you rather see a dragon or a bunch of guys in tights
I mean, The Avengers wins on both accounts there, but we all know how awful that was as a movie.

TDK was more artful imo
The thing I thought of immediately when the dwarf/elf love thing was going on was the song by Tal Bachman, "She's So High". That song fits so perfectly to that whole side plot it's humorous. Spoiler (hover to show)The ending literally had people booing at our theater. It was so frustrating to expect a movie called "The Desolation of Smaug" to include the desolation of Smaug (his death) and end with Smaug just leaving the Lonely Mountain. I lol'd in the theater when Bilbo closed the movie with the line "What have we done..." I am looking forward to the next one though!
The Desolation of Smaug is referring to the ruins of the city, not the act of killing Smaug.
