So I'm on iMDB this morning and I see that there is a trailer for this new movie called Super, starring Dwight from The Office.  He plays a man with no superpowers who dresses up as a superhero because he is a dork who takes his life way too seriously (a real departure from Dwight, right?).  So this is a brief overview of my reactions through the course of discovering this trailer.

"Rainn Wilson as a pretend superhero.  This looks like a dumb version of that other pretend superhero movie with Nicolas Cage.  The trailer might be amusing, though."

"He's a comic geek.  What a shocker.  Hey, is that Kevin Bacon?"

"Yes, it is Kevin Bacon.  This movie still looks dumb."

"Okay, so he tackles a mugger but knocks him into the cripple that was being mugged.  I like ironic humor, even when it's dumb."

"Comic-style animated overlays.  Interesting visual design choice, but Scott Pilgrim did it first, and way better."

"This movie seems exactly as dumb as it sounded.  The trailer was worth a watch but I'll probably wait until this is on Netflix before wasting two hours of my life on it."

"OH MY GOSH NATHAN FILLION IS IN THIS MOVIE I SO TOTALLY HAVE TO SEE THIS IN THEATERS IMMEDIATELY WHEN IT COMES OUT THIS IS AWESOME I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!"

He is a cheesy superhero on the All-Jesus Network named The Holy Avenger, who apparently is shown on his program fighting against the devil or something.

Some might find it offensive or blasphemous, but I often find many Christian efforts to be cheesy imitations of the secular anyway, so I appreciate the satire.  One thing I appreciate about Cactus in particular is that Rob strives for quality in his games and not just to slap the name of Jesus on some piece of drek.

Of course, the MPAA rating on this is not yet established, but I also hear it's kind of violent, so I'm half-expecting this film will get an R and I'll have to remove the thread anyway.

Well, we can discuss it now.
I love that kind of satirical humor, and it's interesting to see Nathan Fillion do it.  I wonder how much it'll factor into the movie.

*edit* just watched the trailer.  This seems like just the sort of thing I like, with the elements that Kick-*ahem* had.  Hopefully it's not just a ripoff of that.  Interestingly enough, it's indy.

MUST SEE.
An unanswered question is infinitely better than an unquestioned answer.
