Spotify

Just thought I'd drop in a recommendation for anyone looking for a music streaming service. I've been using Spotify for a couple months now and despite sharing it with my freeloading cousin (the reason this is annoying is that you can't stream music at the same time since it's supposed to be a single person account) I've never been more satisfied with something I pay for monthly (this goes double for my student loans, CURSE YOUR ROBERTS!!!). The service is very easy to use and has even the most obscure artists I can think of. It's only 10 bucks a month and I can stream music on my computer, ipod, cousin's iphone (grr) or anywhere I have internet access. You can also mark any playlist as available offline and it will download the songs to your whatever you are using. It's completely replaced piracy for me. It also connects with facebooks and lets you see what your friends are listening to and lets you share playlists. So i recommend it, and just felt like posting this because I am not often pleased with services so this seemed like a nice change of pace.

And awful. This isn't a radio station, it's  streaming service. If I want to listen to an entire album by one artist Pandora isn't gonna do crap for me, spotify does, while still having artist radio stations (that are actually intelligent unlink the pandora ones) and there are no ads, no skip limits, nothing. Spotify does have a free version that limits you to streaming on your computer only and offline playlists have to by synced from your computer just like normal music you have on your hard drive, but I found this ineffective for those times when I suddenly remember an album I haven't listened to in awhile.

Is the service just for streaming? No way to save the music?

You can download the music as offline playlists that expire every 30 days or so, and have to be redownloaded (to keep people from signing up, downloading everything they want, and dumping their account) It's extremely easy to do, you just add the songs you want to playlists and select the "available offline" slider.

Spotify IS free. I use the free service, and like it better than Pandora because it's random access to any song and I can create my own playlist, plus it has the radio features.

Pay is only needed if you want ad-free or to download to your iPod, then it's $10 a month.
