Title: Superhero offense
Post by: jtay on February 17, 2009, 09:22:39 PM
So I had this idea a while ago, was going to keep it to myself until I read this:

"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." -Proverbs 15:22.

The idea was to build an offense built on a single combo that, once set up, could not be beaten by any strategy.  The main concept was to set a hero aside with Built on the Rock, Gathering of Angels, and Passover, in order to generate a hero that can't be beaten except by the numbers or by a discard special ability.  Each battle he would band to a FBTN character like Moses or TSA, and I would have several healing cards as well as NotL in case he was defeated.  Wool Fleece should take care of evil banding, and, since I would be defending for a while before attacking, I would have a couple of annoying evil arts/curses to attract my opponent's DoN.

I also planned for the deck to be small (~50 cards) with a bunch of evil card-drawing cards to get my offense out quicker as well as Hur+Gifts, since that's probably the best card-drawing combo out there.  I was also thinking a hand discarding defense (gold+crimson) would work well in this kind of deck to hopefully keep their defensive options down for when time for attacking came around.

Let me know what you think of the idea.

To protect the hero from discard you could use Drawn Out or Melchizadek's Blessing

So like Paul(heroless) with banding?

Or you could just play Z-Temple.

Or you could just play Z-Temple.

I do my best to avoid well known/overused strategies.  Plus, a minor perk with this approach is that I don't need to worry about my heroes and a fort.  Also, I have more choices available to me than just Z-temple priests.

I disagree, your whole premise is limiting you to one Hero.  You may as well be playing Paul Heroless.

I believe Paul Heroless falls under the category of "well known."  Come on, how about some constructive criticism?  None of this "you shouldn't use this strategy" baloney.

amelo, I appreciate your suggestions, and will give them consideration. :)

I use Noah-Noah's sons (set aside with gathering/Built on the rock) - Any fbtn guy I want.

Noah's sons goes into battle and bands to noah (cbn) noah gains their banding ability (which is cbn) and bands to any fbtn hero. They are protected from anything but d/c, sent to hands and other underused cards by built on the rock(cbn)

Altar of Incense can get around the d/c by enhs. I think there is something to get around the return to hand also, but I can't think of it right now.

Godspeed,
Mike

If you've got a FBTN guy in battle, I don't think you'll have to worry about return to hand enhancements much, since, as far as I know, none of those are non-negateable.

Watch out for an active AshPole then, if you are using OT heroes.

You just have to worry about Household Idols at that point as the Gathered hero cannot enter battle if they activate it.  Asherah Pole with a return to hand enhancement or Infectious Disease or Two Possessed by Demons or random other enhancements would hurt you.  However, those cards don't see extensive play, except in my decks.  ;)

If you just make Gideon your superhero then you don't have to worry about Ashera Pole.  ;)

Btw, I have a problem with any "superhero" offense that doesn't include the greatest superhero of them all, Faithful Servant Promo!  :D

Naaman makes 2 non-negateable.

My original intent was to use King Hezekiah (who can also take out Ash Pole) as my superhero, since he's the biggest green guy.  Gideon isn't listed in the online REG for some reason, so I can't look him up right now.  If he's any other color besides green, gold, or silver, though, he would be less desirable, since it would be a little bit harder to set him aside with the three set aside cards I mentioned earlier (Built on the Rock, Gathering, and Passover).

Gideon is a 6/6 gold Judge

Hey jtay, I would use Training in Righteousness to make Saint of Virtue green/silver and gold. I would then use all of your other cards to make him indestructable. Then turn up Three Nails, make an RA with Saint of Virtue, and place Spiritual Warfare on him. They can't kill you if they can't even block you.

FWIW, in MN we use the term "Rambo Deck" for this type of strategy.

I believe Gideon has no listing in the REG other than his name because he has no SA.
Windows of Narrow Light
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect your Heroes with no special ability from capture, conversion and removal from the game. • Identifiers: OT, Temple Item •
This would offer him a little protection.
The Tabernacle + LotS + WoNL

Godspeed,

Yeah, that would be a helpful combo until you draw Built on the Rock. I'd have both.
