Updating A & B Starter Decks

Hello Everyone,

I am a player who got started playing using the A & B Starter Decks and some early expansion sets and have been away from the game for a while.

I am now getting back in the game since a friend has started playing.

After looking at the updated rule book, it looks like there are some new cards out there that mine does not have.

Is there a special "Upgrade" pack out there that will update these starter decks to the new game cards?

In addition, could some one give a summary of what all has changed since the A & B Decks have come out in terms of game play?

Thanks
Binks2001

Indeed, the game has evolved significantly in the last 13 years. Getting an Anniversary Tin or Gift Set will get you some pretty good starter decks and a few packs and other cards. Once you get comfortable with those, I suggest getting either some packs of Priests cards (where just about every card is extremely usable) or, perhaps a better choice, is to track down some of the tins released in the last few years (Rock of Ages, Faith of Our Fathers). These include a pre-set collection of 10 very good cards (you can get ones to match your favorite brigades) plus 5 older booster packs. These are ideal to start your collection if you have the money.

Sadly, a good deal of your older cards won't be that effective anymore. While there are exceptions, the newer starter decks are a much more effective base than the A/B decks.

yes back then it was all about the numbers now its all about the ability your 10/10 guy is gonna crash and burn against a 1/1 except in case of FBTN but he may be able to negate it

Tim Mierz won nationals last year.  Listen to him.  His advice is superb, so please follow it and you'll soon mold into something like him!  ;)

Which starter you get will depend on how you want to approach your return to the game.

Third Edition has some nice cards but several characters and I think even some of the enhancements have no special ability.  It's difficult to win without specials these days.  But that will make an easier transition since you can focus more on the numbers aspect of play.

10th Anniversary is sort of a greatest hits deck, with about half new cards and half reprints of decent cards from different expansions.  The offenses in particular are a pretty good core for building a new deck around them, since one is green and gold Exodus theme, and the other is white and purple New Testament theme.  It also has most if not all of the different special abilities represented somewhere in the decks: ignore, immune, negate, discard, shuffle, capture, convert, etc.
