Opinions on a Syrian Capture defense with a twist

So I already run a pretty successful Syrian capture defense in my deck and was thinking of changing it up with the new set. Would running the same kind of capture defense along with splashing in some black from the new set be a possible viable strategy? Shechem seems like he would have a lot of viability in a capture deck with his ability to move my captured heroes to my opponent's land of bondage and his ability to capture some females. I would also enable me to more easily counter the oh so popular Thad with Stone of Thebes. I was also thinking of adding a few philistines for some straight battle winning and to utilize foreign sword with my red offense. I run Nero for his easy blocks early on and Philli Garrison would do essentially the same thing.

Anyone have any advice? I'm semi against running a full philli defense due to the amount of money that needs to be invested beyond what I already have and the fact that I'm in love with my capture strategy.

That sounds interesting, but the problem with splashing Canaanites is that you cant use Tower of Thebez effectively. Seems like it could work though.

That's true but I don't feel like I need the protection. With Naaman + Chariots and Strong Force I get to play the first enhancement and all I have is capture really. The defense doesn't consist of a whole lot besides capture right now which kind of impedes it a bit which is why I want to splash the philli standalones and that wonderful Stone of Thebes.

Idk how you've been managing to make Syrians, the worst defense, work, but adding Black, the second-worst T1 defense, is not going to help much.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

It doesn't see very high levels of play since there isn't really a playgroup in my area so it's mainly at creation where I play. But it did alright and I was able to last a decent length of time against some tough offenses with it. But I though philistines were regarded as one of the best defenses at the time. Forgive me if I'm mistaken and something has changed a lot in the last couple of months.

Philistines were great at Nationals, but are bad now. The defenses to beat in T1 are Brown, Pale Green, Gold and Crimson.

I can't tell if this is more "Black is weak" jokes or if you're actually serious now.  :o Because Canaanites are seriously good.

I would really appreciate some explanations MP about how this idea is so bad if you wouldn't mind. Not to be rude but people who simply call something trash and don't provide any sort of evidence to support that statement don't instill a lot of confidence. Like I said I don't play a ton and last I remembered a lot of people were calling pale green the worst defense in the game. I also fail to see why philistines went from being great to bad so quickly.

I'm not asking about the viability of Canaanites though, I'm question whether I could devise a viable defense using Syrians for capture and Shechem to feed lost souls to my opponent and also throwing in some of the good Phillistines like Garrison and such to augment the defense once my capturing is exhausted.

People say red is to blame, but I don't see it. All that means is that when your opponent ends in his king, you get to have a cbn overwhelmed by Philistines. Not to mention breaking up all their banding. I think it's viable, anything is. Try it out.

Alright as soon as I can get RTS working and figure out how to use it I'll try testing it out. I'm glad that I might have actually found a way to get my deck to a good point especially with the recent additions to red that help my offense a lot (I got laughed at for running red offense before the new set lol)

Yeah now it's solid. If you're using red, use Bera King of Sodom + Raider's camp for a self-capture auto-block.
