Musician/Judge/Angel Protection Offense

This is an offense I got the idea for quite some time ago, but then forgot about it. Then Disciples came out and something re-sparked my memory....Then I forgot about it again. But I just reremembered it, and I decided that before I forget about it yet again I should post it. So here it is:

White
Asaph
Chenaniah
Ethan
Heman

Cymbals of the Levites
First Fruits (White/Teal)
Magnificat
Sing with Stringed Instruments
Words of Encouragement

Gold
Deborah
Gideon
Moses
Samson (P)

Battle Prayer (Wa)
Deborah's Directive
Eli's Sound Advice (Gold/Teal)
Samuel’s Edict

Silver
The Angel under the Oak
Angel in the Path (Wa)
Gabriel (Di)

Birth Foretold
Protection of Angels

Green
David

Provisions

Multi
Samuel (2011)

Wheel Within a Wheel (2011)

Fortress
Musicians’ Chambers

Title explains the basic theme. I think it's very interesting how these three brigades really fit together this way. However, it's large, slow, and a bit clumsy. I wonder if I could get a little help streamlining it a bit, and also fine-tuning it against the current meta, which I know very little about since I haven't played a single game in months.

Thanks for the help! :)

First Fruits would help speed it up.

I would definitely put in Samuel and David, or maybe King David (or both). Firstfruits would also help for a bit of speed.  Otherwise it looks interesting. The nice thing is that it is small enough to fit a decent-sized defense, and since the offense has a lot of staying power, it might work well.

Okay, took the given advice. Now the offense is 27 cards. That seems a bit too big to me. What could I take out?

I'd take out the Stars because you have no CotH for an FBTN battle.

Looks solid. I would use Deborah's Directive over The Stars and would consider taking out David (green), provisions, and GiED for King Saul, King David, and Pentecost. But again, solid deck. I also think Samson Promo gives you more bang for your buck as cbn edict doesn't help him that much.

If you want to take someting out you could take out heman, battle prayer, gloria and muscians chambers.

Took most suggestions. However, I left in green David and Provisions. It makes better use of Samuel's greenness than the purple kings (making Wheel easier to use), and Provisions draws almost as much as Pentecost and almost as fast. Also, it could win a battle, where Pentecost can do no such thing. It doesn't give Samuel as much drawing power, however. Maybe I'll change my mind if I find this deck far too slow.

Double post: I just realized that this deck would probably be best for TEAMS. My teammate could put in just an Angel in the Path and a Seraph, band to most of my offense, use my Musicians' Chambers, and house our defense in the rest of his deck. I could also use some of my room for an Uzzah and stuff if useful. What do you think?

I like your plan, for defense I would run this:

Quote from: Professoralstad
Uzzah, Gomer, Kot, Sabbath Breaker, Ammy's Slave, Haman's plot.

That defense seems a little too mainstream for me. I've been working on something slightly different: Lot's Wife, Lot's Daughters, Stone of Thebez, Gibeonite Trickery, Uzzah, Slave, maybe Zimri son of Salu, maybe Sabbath Breaker (morally and financially opposed to Plot). Whatcha think?

Should have Stone of Thebez and Gib Delegates in it.

That's an awesome idea I love caananites ;D Needs more black though.  If you're gonna go Caananites here's what I suggest.

Lot's wife, Woman of Thebez, Uzzah, Sabbath Breaker, Gib Delagates, Ammy Slave, Gib Trick, and Stone of Thebez.

This would allow to throw in Tower of Thebez pretty easily.

EDIT: You may want to consider adding in a black king of Israel and King Amazing too.

King Solomon isn't a bad choice if you really want to get Musicians' Chambers sooner (he can also search out defensive forts) and he's a musician.

I played a Musician deck in teams at last nationals (it was a lot of fun, and sharing enhancements through Musician's Chambers was awesome since the decks were almost identical)

That being said, this isn't a dedicated Musician deck, so I'm not sure how it plays. But it does sound interesting.

It has Stone there. Delegates is probably a good idea.

Lot's wife, Woman of Thebez, Uzzah, Sabbath Breaker, Gib Delagates, Ammy Slave, Gib Trick, and Stone of Thebez.

This would allow to throw in Tower of Thebez pretty easily.
Tower of Thebez is not worth it here, especially since I like my hero abilities. That's why I chose Lot's Daughters over Woman of Thebez. Other than that, I like it.

King Solomon isn't a bad choice if you really want to get Musicians' Chambers sooner (he can also search out defensive forts) and he's a musician.
That would be another good reason to switch my Green to Purple...maybe throw in a Counsel of Abigail, or a Royal Parade, or a Reach and AoCP, or a King Amazing and Valley of Salt...or maybe just chill a little cuz the offense is already pretty big.

What does this do better than a traditional Sam offense?
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Who says it has to be "better"? Breaking away from the cookie cutter decks is not a bad thing. Diversity keeps the game fun and interesting.

I personally like this a lot, and am thinking of trying it out as a fun deck (if BB is okay with that, of course).

-_- I ask the question because with a few cards different it could be a normal Sam offense. If the point is not to make the deck as good as it can be, why ask for advice on it?

This deck has Samuel in it, but it is by no means a Samuel deck. It has no long banding chains, no massive one-turn drawing, and not a single red card, and it uses Musicians extensively. To make it a Samuel deck, you would need to change a lot more than a few cards - more like half the offense.

Also, who is to say that this is not better than a normal Sam offense? Who has tested it to see?

BTW, I do not own this concept; anyone who wishes to use it (or any variation of it) is welcome to.

Ignoring what is considered "better" or "worse" in Redemption regarding OT offenses, this deck is indeed a "Samuel deck," which has become the catch-all term for spread offenses. If you want to do a slightly larger defense while avoiding the stereotypical standalone, look at Magicians.

Nobody, but nobody is able to give a reason why it is. The various branches of Samuel offenses have proven to be very effective, so I'm asking what it is about the switches this offense makes that makes it stronger. Apparently, the answer is nothing?

That isn't what I was thinking about when I had the idea, and I truly don't know. I didn't have "better" in mind when working on this - just "different". Thinking about it now, I don't see much of a reason why this would be any better than if the white were replaced with red/green/purple, except that Musicians are more focused on protection than on destruction, and people will probably be less prepared for that.

However, this is completely untested to the best of my knowledge and I can say nothing about its performance right now. You just can't know how good something is until you test it, so I don't think it's fair to ask yet how it compares to other decks.

I posted this here more because I wanted to see what people thought of the idea than because I wanted to make it the best offense possible. I'm more of an idea maker than a deck builder. Apparently some people like the idea and some just think it's a stupid variation of a Samuel offense. That's fine. But please stop asking what makes this "better", because it's getting old.

I only asked once, and just now received an answer that wasn't "don't ask that question."

Being a Musician, I'm always wanting Musicians to be playable. This comes close to being playable, but it's so close to a Sam deck that the Spike in me won't consider it unless the deviations from standard Sam make it better or at least equivalent. That's why I was asking.
