Moabite enemies

I would like to construct a Contender deck using Moabites as a defense but I’m undecided on the best thematic offense to pair with it. I noticed that the Moabite characters are spread out from the time of Genesis, to Moses, to the judges and to the time of David. I thought about doing an Exodus heroes/judges combo but I don’t know if this would be the best option.

What recommendations do you all have on the best thematic offense for this deck?

I might recommend a Judges/Ruth offense, since Ruth herself is a Moabite (as well as Orpah, obviously), and Ehud killed King Eglon.

Another possibility is a green deck. David (Psalmist, probably) and the new Elisha are directly connected with the Moabite cards David's Servants and King Mesha, respectively. Isaiah and Jeremiah both prophesy against Moab as well (Isaiah 15-6, Jeremiah 48), so they could go in too. Fill out the rest with other good green cards and that could work.

Ruth/Judges also makes a good choice because of the White/Gray DAE.

Combine for a white green deck with David the psalmist, ruth heroes, and the new Isaiah. You'd probably also want a few more green characters, but it sounds like a fun theme deck.

These are all great ideas. I especially like the Ruth/Judges theme as it fits very well with Moabites (Orpah), and if I made a Ruth deck one day I would need to pair it with some thematic defense, which would probably be either Moabites or Philistines.

I’ll test some things out and see if I can incorporate David the Psalmist and maybe the new Isaiah with this theme. In the end, I’ll see what works best with the suggestions you all made.

Thanks again for the input!

Here’s a tentative deck list. Keep in mind that I chose certain cards over others based upon card value as I need to keep the price as low as possible. For example, Gideon’s Ephod over Golden Calf (FoM). As is, I would sell this deck for $45 to $50 (trying to keep it at $45 depending on the rarity of the PoC cards in it). The total approximate YTG card value, including deck box and sleeves, is $73.00. It’s a 38% savings if the price is $45, and a 31% savings if it’s $50.00.

By the way, I knew of no Moabite-related Sites. The closest thematic choice that has a decent ability was Mildewed House. So if someone else has a better option please post it.

EDIT: I originally had Jephthah (J) and Jephthah’s Daughter in the offense in place of Nam. Servant Girl. I chose more soul gen and a hero convert instead of the other two. But I may want to switch it back. I’d just have to get rid of another card if I did that, maybe Family Bond.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Admittedly, my Moabite experience is mostly T2, and my Ruth/Judges experience is purely theoretical. I'm also going to make a couple recommendations that deviate from the theme slightly, for deckbuilding purposes. That said:
I realize it might be another cost issue, but Moab himself is great for setting up the defense quickly. I might drop Mesha for him, especially since there's no animals so unless you're giving up doms (which, admittedly, GoYS works well for) he's just initiative.
I would highly recommend Balaam's Disobedience, perhaps over Teaching.
If you're willing to break from 100% Moabites, Sabbath Breaker is also a good add.
Foreign Wives is both Moabite and Canaanite - she would allow Idol Worship to actually search for Ephod or Unsuccessful.
I'm not sure there's enough capture for Raider's Camp.
Similarly, if Moses and Ehud are the only judges I'm not sure Seat is worthwhile (if you want to keep it, Jair might be good, especially with his speed).
I'm not sure I like Covenant of David in this deck. I guess it works if you really need to include a covenant, but it feels like a wasted slot.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

Thanks for the feedback. So when it comes to these decks they are meant to be an introduction deck that is strong enough for basic competitive play but are intended to be built upon/tweaked as any deck is. They are also meant for newer players to get a feel for all kinds of card types and abilities, so each deck is standard with Forts and Sites, DACs, covenants and curses. This is why I have raiders camp in it, although I am aware that there should be more capture to really make it work best, in going back to my statement above this is meant to give a taste of how Raiders works. And the reason that it’s in there is there are no Moabite-related forts, so I had to choose something as closely thematic as I could. The same goes for judge’s Seat, even though a lower numbered judge is definitely better.

I had Moab in it originally but based upon his price value and him not being closely related to being thematic (since he’s Genesis) I opted to cut him. But I may add him back in for the reasons you cited.

I also had BD in with BT but I cut it to make room for another CBN enh (Scattered Sheep). But I may make some changes to those.

I like your suggestion about FW. I’ll add her in.

Mesha was there for the reason you cited. I may cut either him or one of the generic Moabites.

I disagree with your Cov of David analysis. Not only does it allow you to get any fort or site out (if used it David), but the art side let’s you get out David or any Moabite king. Besides, I need a covenant in each Contender deck.

Made the following changes:

- Switched Vain Philosophy for Harvest Time since Na. Servant Girl has been replaced, and HT can work well with King Mesha
- Switched Na. Servant Girl for Jair for Judge’s Seat synergy and a draw 2, and to have a third judge
- Removed Family Bond to make room for an extra blocker (Foreign Wives)
- Switched Emim for and Moab (same price value)
- Switched Balaam’s Teaching for Balaam’s Disobedience

Due to the added card value this deck would be $50.00 (35% savings), which is definitely a great deal for what you’re getting!
