I used to run it with Crimson, but that was back in the day. I don't know too much about the current metagame and was wondering what people's opinions were on this topic.

Brown is nice with an upgraded version of King Rehoboam since he is protected from opponents cards played during the side battle.  Much easier to set off a side battle with either version of King Rehoboam rather than having to gain initiative to play an enhancement creating the side battle.

 +1 with MitchRobStew

But crimson is still decent for it too I think because of Christian Suing Another's ability to interrupt and create a side battle as well.

Alright, maybe I should clarify what the sidebattle combo is.

It's where you battle challenge with a card that lets you play first, drop a sidebattle card, bring out your EC's, capture all their EC's, great image all their heros, confusion, false peace, false dreams...whatever you want the list goes on.

Evil side battle cards are worthless, you only need stalls before setting off the combos.

How long does it take to set up the combo?

I don't know. I usually managed to set it off every game at least once, but I don't currently have a version of the deck that's up to date.

I would still go with brown for defense so you can use Nazzy + Hur + Stalks of Flax + Complainers to speed through your deck.  Also brown has a lot of stopping power which would but you time to set up your CTB combo.

You could go old school and go with Claudia & E.T., play Cup of Wrath, you block with King Shallum or any other low numbers, crimson guy play Arrogance and then Mask of Worldliness and viola, destroy.

Evil gold has an ec vs. ec enhancement and good stall possibilities with Wonder's Forgotten and Failed Objective. You may want some support, but it's a decent defense.

I think he was looking on offense unless I read it wrong, in which case he'd want good side-battle cards...like this good gold brigade one ;)

Sword against Sword
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Yellow • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Select two Evil Characters to fight each other. Cannot be negated if used by a Hero with a Judges reference.

Of course you're right, on the evil gold side there's:

Troops Discharged (Ki)

Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Gold • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Select two Evil Characters in play to fight each other. Wall of Protection has no effect.

No, I'm looking for a defense to be used offensively and defensively in conjunction with an offense that starts side battles by battle challenging with Hidden Treasures (or what not) to play first and start a side battle in order to use evil cards during those side battles.

As I said above, brown is your best bet.  A GoJ/GoS defense should beat down anything the opponent throws at you.

I finally understand.

Gold is still nice for Besieging the City. Black works with Wrath + I am Healing. Crimson is still probably your best bet though, as Head of Gold is only of the only evil cards that simply wrecks a defense. Great Image is a given, and it's all together a decent defense.

The old Prophets method is still good, just adapted into 100 cards with Isaiah as the general.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

100? Isaiah? General?

Did Redemption add commander while I was gone?

The basis for most of my T2 decks is lone green prophet+HT+green side battle card.  There's all sorts of fun things I've come up for the side battle.  ;)
Final ANB errata: Return player to game.
