Is a herod defense a good/viable option in today's game and with the new cards that were just revealed? i've always thought herod cards were super powerful and was confused why i didn't see more people using them. Then, they got a boost in the PC set, so i find it strange that i haven't seen or heard any talk of any herod cards at my playgroup. If i was to build a herod deck, what would it look like, and what are some potential weaknesses of this theme?

let me give you three simple reasons i believe Herod's didn't see much play in the past..
King David.. before the ignore ruling change King David would practically walk in on a Herod defense.. that has now changed.
Ehud/Ehud's Dagger.. pretty much anyone running Herod's is expecting this, and while it can be almost a free soul, Herod's Temple and Herod's Dungeon are easy ways to take care of this.
Speed. for the most part, there are simply faster defenses. now with Fortress of Antonia, you can get out your Herod's pretty quick through reveal if you have a decently fast offense, or a way to search out Fortress.
overall Herod's are now a very powerful defense. i don't think that you would have a lot of trouble blocking with a decent Herod's defense.

The major weakness of Herods has always been initiative. They rarely get to play first (unless its against banded Heroes and they definitely don't have trouble with banding) so they often get hit with a CBN battle winner. Evil Gold does have a lot of negates/interrupts so they have that going for them, but as KV mentioned, they are not a great match-up against Judges unless you get an early Herod's Temple.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Herods with Colosseum is crazy good. Their biggest weaknesses are 100% neutralized by Colosseum, allowing their battle-extending, band-rejecting, sister-in-law marrying rukkus to be raised without fear of the most gutted offense of all time (it was on purpose. Judges have had plenty of years in the spotlight).

FWIW, I went 4-1 in ROOT with an AoG/Herod's Defense this month (technically, the game I lost had a different defense, so the Herod defense was 4-0, but the game I lost I would have lost with any defense). Anyway, I agree with MP that Coliseum will make them even stronger. But they are already pretty solid when played correctly.

I'm super excited that Herods are viable again! I remember playing my "Propherods" deck at Nats 2011 in T1-2P and having a blast (though not winning very many rounds, haha).

Honestly, while I think Moses or Clay offense with Crimson (either Neat or with Grey, Black, or Pale Green) has the best odds to win Natz by a fair clip, this is the first year literally anything has the potential to win.
