Discard the top

Do you think it would be possible to make a playable deck, with the goal of continually discarding the top card of the opponents deck? I don't know if it is a viable strategy, but I thought it would be fun to play around with. I know the Evil enhancements and Evil characters are not balanced, but this is the best I had so far.

Cool Plays:
-Besieging the City / Mayhem
-Shrine of Artemis / Promised Land / Deck Discard Lost Soul
-Vain Philosophy / Wash Basin /Warrior's Spear "thanks Master Q"

*I put numbers next to the 12 cards that can possibly discard the top card of opponents deck.

Could it work for a fun deck?

Discard Deck: (56)

Lost Souls (7)
Deck Discard (1)
2-Liner
Female Only
NT-Only
Exchange Lost Soul
Ressurection
CBP

Sites/Fortresses: (3)

Dragon Raid
Pithom (2)

Doms (7)
Aotl
Sog
NJ
Grapes
Mayhem
VP
CM

Artifacts/Covenants/Curses (4)
Wash Basin
Given Over To Egypt (3)
Captured Ark
Shrine to Artemis

Heroes: (10)
Captain of the Host
Ira
Benaiah
Asahel
Heldai
Ishamiah the Gibeonite
Abishai
Maharai
Helez
Israelite Archer

Hero Enhancements: (5)
Brass Serpent
Foreign Sword
Warrior's Spear (4)
A Soldier's Prayer

Gold Evil Characters: 9
   Queen Tahpenes (5)
   Egyptian Horseman (6)
   Huge Egyptian (7)
   Evil Spawn ( 8 )

It definitely is a viable strategy. I am no expert, so I couldn't give specific advice on the deck

I've toyed with deck destruction as a concept, though I'm awful at building techy decks because I want to try to put everything in it.  It can work but you have to also realize that if your main strategy is to discard random cards, it will win you some games and cost you others, depending on what you hit.  Only hit some support characters and non-battlewinners?  You'll probably lose.  Take out all of their dominants and battlewinners?  Yeah, you may win that one.

One of the snags I've always hit is that most of the deck destruction stuff is on defense, and so you'll probably want to build it as a defensive-heavy.  However, until you get your pieces in place, you're not getting the destruction going, so a large deck is not going to be as viable (in my experience).  I'd say try to get down closer to 50-56, and have a smaller offense instead.

One other great tool you may want?  Sowing Bountifully.  It plays the souls, discards the evil already and puts the good cards back on top.  Why is this important?  Because you can do this pre-battle and know you aren't hitting a Soul.  In fact, you know what you will hit exactly, and what they'll be drawing next turn. That said, maybe you should go Clay/Red (to still use Spear), with someone like Cornelius to use your weapon and still give you a lot of negation.  He works well with Peter (missionary, can gain Corinth), too.  Apollos lets you recur Sowing Bountifully, too, so you could potentially keep going with your destruction.  Just some thoughts to test.

On defense, Outnumbered is probably not going to help you most of the time, and it just gives lots of initiative for them to negate it (and cascade-negate all of your characters).  Why not try Revolt instead?  It has an Interrupt the Battle (awesome) and has a battle-winning condition; it suffers the same issues as Outnumbered on negation, and can't bring Herod in, but it useful even if you don't have all of your pieces available (since it wins the battle).  Also, it lets you use their EC against them.

I also wouldn't try to use the Potiphar + Wife combo.  I've never seen it really work, and you need to focus your defensive strategy given what you want to do.  Jannes is also not helping you very much, either, IMO.  You could put some different cards in instead (maybe Archer, who could hold Herod's Sword and then band to someone else who has Horses on them?).

Any discard deck will want to use Wash Basin. VP their SoG, Wash Basin it to the top, and Warrior's Spear will cause much grief.

Salome (gold) banded to Herod Agrippa I discards two without fearing LS, she should be in.

I also like Begging to Go Back, but that depends on how committed you want your defense to be to discarding.
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

I took some advice from both of you. I got it down to 56, and am planning on play testing it to get it down to 50-51.

Redoubter....I liked your suggestions on offense, but I really don't have too many of the newer cards. I don't think I could make clay/red work with the cards I have. I love revolt for this deck, I didn't even know it existed! I ditched Potipher, his wife and Jannes. I added Salome and the archer.

Master Q: I love the wash basin / Vain Philosophy / warrior's spear combo. Cool! Begging to go back, is perfect, because I was worried about discarding their lost souls.

Thanks guys, just trying to have some fun with this idea. See if I can get it to be playable.

The problem with Wash Basin is that it requires N.T. Heroes, of which you have none. I would go with Redoubter's suggestion of Clay/Red so you can get some N.T. Heroes and Sowing Bountifully in there.

There was recently a discussion about "mill" decks here that you might find helpful.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

I wonder if you could try an all out devastation strategy with deck discard. Large Black-Gold defense with Shrine to Artemis, Promise Land, and Burial shroud with ways to search out lost souls so given over to egypt and warriors spear can hit earlier and faster. Small green and clay offense to utilize wash basin, hidden treasures, and sowing bountifully stacking the deck with Achaicus. Interesting in theory but probably not practical. Makes me want to put together a deck list---> "The Green Mill"

I think a 57 card mill deck has an advantage against a 50 card deck (especially if the 50 card deck has no recursion), but it will still come down to what cards are hit. As the opposing deck gets bigger however, the mill deck loses advantage since the opposing deck has more resources and the odds of hitting important cards like dominants goes down.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Thanks Gabe for linking that other forum, it really helped. I've played an updated version of this deck, and had some good success. Weaknesses include Cov W. Death, Nazareth, and King David. I've had a lot of fun with this deck...I had one game where I discarded three doms (FA, NJ, and Grapes). The offense is good as a help to the defense. I have added some better defensive cards to win battles.

If you have any of the New Persecuted church cards , you can try putting in the following cards

Drusilla (discard top card and possibly withdraw a hero from a different testament then that card)

and/or Stormy seas (discard top 2 cards if used by an Egyptian) It could replace begging to go back.

Just some thoughts.
