I want to build a deck from scratch and I have the theme for the deck in mind. However I do not know what brigade color will work well with my theme. I want to be able to have an offense that lets me gain extra cards from my deck or exchange cards. For the defense, I want to be able to get some cards back from the discard pile and I want to make my opponent discard their card. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance ;D.

For the defense you might want to look at Brown. Brown has the best recursion with two characters that get your enhancements back (King Nadab and King Amon) as well as a couple other kings who get stuff back from the discard pile. Brown also has a decrease theme that can get rid of your opponent's Heroes through decrease abilities. However, Brown does not have much for discarding cards from opponent's hand or territory (except Heroes as I mentioned).
For the offense, Judges are one of the fastest offenses as they include many Heroes and Enhancements that can draw or exchange for other cards. For Heroes you would have The Angel under the Oak, Angel with the Secret Name, Samuel, Jair and Tola. For enhancements you could could include Eli's Sound Advice, The Acts of Solomon and Battle Prayer.

I would actually suggest magicians for defense. With the new printing of wizards and Mist recursion is doable. For discard there is mist and the big one is words of discouragement though that's more hand control than discard. Orange also plays really well with Magicians and has persistent pestering. And Invoking Terror basically recurs itself with Magicians. Offensively judges fits best, Disciples are another solid option imo.

Agreed!

I like to do demons/magicians and then judges and angels. If you want to be targeting your opponents territory abom is a good option or even jair and judges seat

I'll consider this for a type 2 deck. Right now I am just trying to build a type 1 that works well with my play style.
