Best Defense?

I'm basically looking to build a heroless 105 deck, and am looking for a defense that can stop anything and gets set up quickly enough. I'm not looking for a particular strategy (Romans-hand discard, Egyptians-deck discard) I was thinking Magicians or Phillies?

Best defense =  don't draw any lost souls.  Phillies can be beast, especially with their generics.

Best defense for such a deck is CBNB hands down. The last version I used went something like this:

Gold Evil
HAII
Herod the Great
Salome
Herodias
Mask of Fear
Herod's Treachery (not really gold, but goes with the Herods)
Whatever the egyptian negate card is

Orange Evil
KoT
Wandering Spirit
Spirit of Temptation
Defeaning Spirit

Brown Evil
Gomer
Foul Spirit
King Manasseh
SMC
IoJ

Black Evil
A couple big Sads
Simon the Magician
JiP
Foolish Advice

Of course you will want WoP, Gates of Hell, Gates of Jer, Magic Charms, the Di Sites, Herod's Dungeon and Temple.

A 105 deck better be faster than a 70. No, laver and gates doesn't do that.

A deck gets real fast once you gates 90% of it.  It shouldn't have to be fast, just solid (but speed doesn't hurt).

I have a way to remedy that. I'm not worried about the speed of this deck.

A 105 defense will be weaker than a 56 or 63 CBNB defense because of dilution, but Pharisees are by far the best 105 defense.

Why Phars? Didn't you say that they were the best small defense?

They're also the best 105. Duplicates on Entrapping Pharisee, Pharisees, Proud Pharisee, Just a Hireling, Balaam's Disobedience, Tenants Kill the Son, and Self-Righteous Prayer are all amazing, plus the added drawing from Proud Pharisees and the option of False Peace. Having duplicates of Besieged also stops DoN from ruining your banding party.

You can have a duplicate of Just a Hireling in Type 1?  I didn't know that.

I do think that Philly + Simon + Lot's Wife + Site lock is a good defense for Heroless.  That's what I use in my 70 card heroless.  But if you run into Disciples and Fishing Boat you may be in trouble.  But Phillies also get some CBN against purple :)

I don't think you can have 2x jaH or 2x Tenants Kill the Son since they are bi-colored. You cannot in type two anyways. Even so I agree with you that phars would be a good 105 card defense, especially for heroless because you have the high priests+UT to look at their hand. I wonder would disbelieving saducee be a good splash against silver, which can give gray problems?

For the record, he sent me the deck idea and the offense is absolutely tiny. We're looking at 90+ cards for defense here if that matters.

Gray. Gold shield and horses let you win before they can play enhancements. These cards are essential for stalling with a big deck. Mine ended up with a record of 7-1 last year.

So no 2x Tenants or JaH. I stand firmly by my advocacy of Phars as the best 100+ defense. Tons of banding with generics (CBN with Besieged up), ninja blocks everywhere, staying power with Scribe recursion, redundant territory protection with HPP and the Sites (no sneaky Benedictus+ET+AoCP ruining your day), HPP itself giving a free UW slot, and within Grey you have even more goodies (Sabbath Breaker x2, BBN/Momentum Change x2, Namaan and his ride, Job's Wife, Balaam (for all intents and purposes), but all of that's just gravy on top of Proud and Entrapping x2.

Make sure you run Pigs and Casting Lots x2 with Hand Discard LS x2.

No, but he can band to a Sad/Phar:
Scribe (Di)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Black/Gray • Ability: 2 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Search discard pile for an O.T. Enhancement and place it beneath deck. Negate ignore abilities. May band to a Pharisee or Sadducee. • Identifiers: Generic NT Male Human • Verse: Luke 20:46 • Availability: Disciples booster packs ()

The best defense ever is that absolutely wrong idea you messaged me. Use dat. Except keep it secret until a big tourny. So don't use dat.

I like going Brown with a splash of Pale Green Magicians in a 100+ T1 deck.

You then have:
Gib Trick x2
Dungeon x2
Plot x2
Uzzah x2
Gomer x2
Magic Charms x2
King Amon x2
Forgotten History x2
King Manasseh/Gates

You can block for a very long time once that defense is set-up.

The only thing that defense could possibly be susceptible to is some early game big #s banding, but I'm sure you could easily fit Gold Cow x2 and HHI x2.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?
