T1 2P:
Speed, Searching, Doms, and ways to counter them...

Defense is on the rise, but how much D is too much?
How much Nazzy will you really see?
How good is King David?
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

(Hand) Control seems to be becoming more popular thanks to the new gray cards from I/J, which coincides with RTSmaniac's comment above about seeing more defense.

I usually tried to do this by putting my opponents deck into his discard pile and then removing them all from the game, but alas, those days seem to be behind us ;)

Maybe they are, but if that is true, it wasn't until recently: Kirk had a combo deck that was able to discard his opponent's deck that he used this past summer.

No it was a Stillness deck. It performed decently at regionals and nationals. Someone else built a similar deck in more recent times as well.

I find this comment very amusing.

Yeah, I've been out a while as well.  Kirk, was there another rule change that stops those decks from working now?  Care to share what that deck was?  My guess would be that you used The Long Day and the "new" rule that generic characters can enter battle more than once.

P.S. Matt, does this mean you're back now?  Hope you are doing well.  Should we try putting some event together (Ohio hasn't had a tournament in.......)?  Personally, I've got all the new cards but still haven't put together any decks.  Mostly it is business and a little laziness but partly I just haven't had enough incentive since most of our local players quit.

Hey the "south OH" players haven't quit :)

Also I thought Travis was having Redemption tournaments at his store every Saturday morning?

No, we've got other tournaments but we haven't had any official Redemption in quite a while.  Occasionally a couple people play a game or two but even that is pretty rare now.  I know Travis had some people playing at his church but I'm not sure if that is still happening.

What is going on in terms of other Redemption development?  Are they working on a new set?

Oh, I was just going by the website that lists Sat at 11am as Redemption T1-2p tournaments.  But Travis just mentioned to me on FB that it's a new thing, so maybe it hasn't happened yet.  Hopefully it'll catch on.

As for development, we are indeed working on a new set, but it just depends on the finances as to what the next product will be (tins, foil pack, something else, etc.).  I think everyone would like to do a foil pack, but we're just not sure that the money will be there.  I'm wondering if a Kickstarter thing might help out.

Huh, that is news to me and I also hope it can catch on.

Yeah.  I think the game really needs a new booster pack set specifically developed with draft in mind.  I personally think that a large (300) card set would be great for the game right now (and the mythical video game).  With that you could draft out of just that set or mix it with others.  Of course finances are big thing and it would be bad if the set was delayed again.  When you say foil, do you mean like TexP or an all new foil or partial foil set?  I think an all new set is far more desirable than having foils like TexP.

Kickstarter might be good but if sales are diminishing then I don't know it would be enough.  I wonder how Cactus is doing financially and how the new set is selling?  It seems like tournaments and playgroups have been diminishing but it is hard to get an overall picture.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think a Redemption expansion would be a permitted use of the Kickstarter website. The game has already been established; if it were a new game it would be permitted, but for an already established one you may have to go through another website.

But that's still different than a game. There are plenty of other reliable crowdsourcing sites that could be used, but Kickstarter is perhaps the most restrictive as to what you can and cannot use. That was my point.

When you say foil, do you mean like TexP or an all new foil or partial foil set?
We are considering all options, so that would include tins like FOOF, boxes like TXP, and foils like Priests.  Our preference would be to go with a big new set like Priests.  But that is also the most expensive, so that's why I was thinking Kickstarter :)

I wonder how Cactus is doing financially and how the new set is selling?  It seems like tournaments and playgroups have been diminishing but it is hard to get an overall picture.
My understanding is that Cactus is doing fine financially, but that it is because of their other products.  Redemption is only bringing in a fraction of the overall profits for the company at this point.  But it is still Rob's baby, and so we are very thankful for his continued support and love that he puts into this great game.  As for playgroups, they are diminishing in places (like OH which would lead to your feelings), but they are growing in other places (like TN and AL).  Overall I think the game is staying at about the same level that it's been for a long time.

There are plenty of other reliable crowdsourcing sites that could be used, but Kickstarter is perhaps the most restrictive as to what you can and cannot use.
I also had seen established musicians doing Kickstarter for new albums and assumed it would work for this.  Can you suggest another crowdsourcing site that we should check out?

Mark, are you trying to say that in the possible near future, musicians may get stronger and become a future favorite?

You'd have to look and see if it was an acceptable project for Kickstarter. If it is not (which it may be, you just need to do some digging), then Indiegogo is essentially the same thing and a lot more flexible.

I cannot confirm nor deny anything of note regarding musicians in the next set :)

This seems to be a hard way to go about things, as it may be difficult to interest many newer people in investing in an existing franchise--such as Redemption--via a Kickstarter or Indiegogo. The issue is that someone outside the game cannot get into Redemption (in a meaningful way) by buying into one set. Your best audience for such appeals would be the folks already playing, and you have access to them directly through the boards.

So forget the third-party sites and hit up the people you know will be interested. You could tailor Kickstarter-type reward levels (e.g., pay $X now and get a complete playset of the cards when they are printed) for the existing players and see what funding you can get via that means.

Of course there is always the LCG route, which I think would be a much better distribution model for Redemption in the long run, but that is a different discussion.

That was my concern as well. I do have a question though - what is an LCG?

Living Card Game. It's similar to the tin model but more substantial in terms of product (rather than being a bogus 10 card product that is better to buy separately and thus defeats the purpose of the release imo).

If the Elders wanted to make Musicians more powerful, they would simply rule that Isaiah and Simeon (and the other Hymn authors) are musicians
