Types of Decks
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:27:30 PM »

Hey guys, I'm going off of something that Prof. Underwood has thought of:  He has his playgroup "earn a certain level" based on what types of decks they have beaten.  What I want to do is introduce my new players to the different types of decks & styles of play, and let them choose which ones they like best.  So basically I'm asking you to do two different things for me, 1st. list any type of deck that I have forgotten and then 2nd. rank them based on how strong they "normally" are.  I know almost any deck can beat any deck, but we know which ones are strongest.

Here is my first list:
CTB
Rogue
Speed
FbtNB
Abomb
FbtN
Hand Discard
TGT
Herolite (Turtle)
Deck Discard
Sitelock
Heroless

Please add more!  Another thing to think about with the ranking is that with the release of the disciple set there will be a lot of purple decks which will boot it down the list more than normal.  But my guys are going to be slowly adding to their collection and start their collection from the original set moving foward (to see how the game has progressed).  So against my guys Site-Lock is far from dead!

Any input would be much appreciated!

ANB reset

This is more of a T2 strategy. I'm sure with new players he is looking for T1.

Disciples.

I would consider this to fall into the speed category.

A long time ago (in internet time) I did a post that discribes the deck styles nicely.  You might want to look it up.

Speed
Heroless
Turtle
Site-Lock
BBTN
BBTNB
A-Bom
TGT
Hand Discard
Deck Discard
Add to this Chose the Blocker, recursion, and rogue.

As for my ranking, I'd have it like this in terms of results among elite players:

CTB
Rogue
Speed
FbtNB
Abomb
FbtN
Hand Discard
TGT
Herolite (Turtle)
Deck Discard
Sitelock
Heroless
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

What is rogue and where do you rank recursion?

Rogue is standard almost-mono offense and almost-mono defense.

I would put Recursion between FbtNB and Abomb.

Is Hero-lite "Rogue", or is it its own category?  Like a Zeb/Servant deck, for example.

It's in its own category. Herolite decks are rarely monocolor, and if they are, there is no more than one hero involved.

My Zeb Servant may be an exception then.  It has Zeb in case I deck first (56 cards), and Watchful Servant in case they deck first.

I wouldn't consider it an exception. I would still consider it herolite. My herolite deck is 63 cards and the only heroes I have are Watchful Servant, Zeb and Ahimaaz. The only reason Zeb is in there is in case I end up playing a 100+ card deck.

This is going to show some of my ignorance, but what is in a CTB deck?  I know about Jacob / Obedience of Noah, but what else would be in it?

Pol has a good one I have heard. I know most of them include Provisions with Micah to recurr, Jacob/OoN with Asher to recurr and King Amaziah with an israelite king to block.

Forgot about those two, I knew Asher could get OoN back.

I'm not very skilled on the lingo/proper terminology (Only been playing for a year and I just build decks based on the cards, not type), but aren't there such things as Control Decks?  I look forward to correction/clarification if I'm wrong/ignorant/classy.

There are a few control decks lurking...but these decks are either considered jank or broken. :)

Abom's just to chancy for me in T1.  I like it a bit more in T2.

"Control" is a very broad category, in Redemption it's typically Abomb in T1. In T2 there are more control options.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
