I still laugh at Garden Tomb non-stop since I love to play small offenses...  If the card really gives you fits, just play a patient game and don't attack until your defense is set up...

Assyrian Camp and House of Rimmon both protect from capture. Gold has enough useful women, especially if you're running deck discard, to not worry about WaS much.

I rarely found Women as Snares to be that helpful in my TGT offense.  Sure, she may clear out a defense, but unless you're playing Pale Green she isn't going to win the battle so you end up giving up a LS.  Then she creates a lot more souls that you have to defend.

Holy Grail on the other hand is extremely useful.  I imagine we'll see a few more orange brigade defenses this year though so that may change.

Assyrians and Philistines both have forts that protect from capture.  The Philistine one lets you activate Altar of Dagon, which will protect from convert even in battle, which is very nice for those initiative-giving giants.  Blue Tassles works nicely, too.  :)

I think Gates of Jerusalem protects from capture.  Does House of Rimmon (Syrians)?
Yep Gates, and House of Rimmon offer some of the best protection in the game. Gates protects from all of opponents cards.  Rimmon protects from capture but is lacking in conversion protection.

House of Rimmon: Protect Syrian Evil Characters in your territory from shuffle, capture, and discard unless Elisha is in play.

Gates: Protect evil Kings and Queens of Judah in your territory from opponent's cards.  If one blocks, its special ability cannot be negated and you may draw a card.

Head of Gold
Authority of Christ
A Child is born
Habbakuk
Habbakuk stands watch
Nathan
Two possessed by demons

i find it ironic that everyone is listing the territory-defenders that were available prior to texp as viable counters to tgt...yet that still didn't stop tgt from sweeping nationals. HMM.

That is why I pair them with The Garden Tomb.

The problem wasn't that nobody used Protection Fortresses.  I faced at least two that I remember.  There might have been more.  Not everyone wants to play a civilization that has a Fortress available though.

There's no territory protection that stops everything.  Then there's Trumpet Blast to take care of the protection Fortresses.  Then you have the problem that the Evil Character have to block at some point and survive the battle.... ::)

Doesn't Assyrian Camp stop everything? Capture, Discard, and conversion...what else is there?

Assyrian Camp doesn't protect from shuffle (Holy Unto the Lord) or place beneath deck (Passoever and Unleven Bread).  Assyrians are also large and give up initiative every battle unless they have 2KHorses.

Yeah, I used a new beginning twice against Assyrian defenses. It worked great, got rid of horses and then I'd get initiative and win the battle.

I assume you mean you shuffled in the horses, becuase ANB cannot discard it.

Ignore.
