57 card deck

I know the winning trend (usually) is to keep your deck at 50 cards, but with all the new doms and even more powerful souls available its pretty tempting to go to 57 cards. Do you think a 57 card deck could compete with a 50 card deck? If so, what would you consider to make the deck fast or have a good early game set up?

I think 57 is definitely viable if you include enough speed cards and avoid cards that make your deck thicker (i.e. Gain LS).

Without a doubt. I'm fairly confident that a 57 card blue genesis deck with the Abraham/Angel at Shur search engine combined with lot and midianite's slave can out rush a ton of 50 card decks, especially if you are running a normal speed or fast defense defense. you can't run a slow defense with this, that's for sure, but defense that has 2-3 draw/search cards should be able to hold up that end just fine.

A Genesis deck is what I had in mind specially considering ANB.

Anecdotal evidence from a mediocre deckbuilder:
I've been running a Tabernacle deck with a grey defense at 57 to minimize the opportunity cost of Glory. I've found it to be somewhat swingy - when I get what I need, it does well, but there are games where both my feasts, Glory, Eleazar, Sabbath Breaker and Vittles are all on the bottom of my deck (or where HSR goes up early and slows it massively).

That said, I think that 57 is very viable. As long as you build in ways to find your speed if needed. I also think that, while it may not be the most common defense, mill Egypt will see some play this year, and 57 helps that matchup as well.

If you did not draw a single card beyond your three at draw phase, a 57 card deck would add 2 additional draw steps for you (12 Draws in a 50 and 14 draws in a 57). So, is an extra dominant and an extra LS worth slowing your deck down by 2 draws?

Turn        Remaining Cards (Because LS replace their draws, i deducted that from the decks)
Opening   35   41
1           32   38
2           29   35
3           26   32
4           23   29

That's why you only play with 57 if you have a really fast deck, like the Abraham search engine, or a throne offense. The only other reason to play with 57 isn't really viable any more, which is super slow decks that defend by keeping souls off the table. One of my friends has a deck like that that he has been playing for the last two years, but he'll have to change that soon with all the soul gen that has come out recently, and the fact that the liners were banned.

Abraham searches and bands to Lot, withdraw either of them for a D2.

Next turn Abraham searches one of his other targets (Isaac, Sarah, Melchizedek, Harbingers, Angel at Shur) but still bands to Lot for the D2.

What is the Abraham search engine?

Abraham banding to angel at shur. I can use that and play 11-12 heroes no problem, if i really need that many, but most of the time 10 heroes. Throw in faith of Sarah and abraham and you'll have all your heroes out in a few turns. With the new lot, midianite's slave, and Pit of Dothan, this is by far one of the fastest offenses.

Abraham searches and bands to Lot, withdraw either of them for a D2.

Next turn Abraham searches one of his other targets (Isaac, Sarah, Melchizedek, Harbingers, Angel at Shur) but still bands to Lot for the D2.

this may be the new way to play it, but i like banding to the angel at shur most turns, at least in the beginning, so i can get all my heroes.

Yeah, definitely a couple ways to use it.

I like using the Lot method as he's CBI, and that way I'm (hopefully) getting offense and defense out of my deck at a more balanced rate.

Why go for Heroes when I'm going to be attacking with Abraham every turn anyway... ::)

I attack with joseph, benjamin, or Jacob most turns.  :dunno:

Abraham just grabs the support stuff so you can set up combos with isaac and lot. Angel at shur grabs the real offense.
