Game Reports
Round 1 vs Rex A.
Rex was using a Flood/Rome deck and he got the Noah+Sons band very quickly. However, he did not manage to find his Ark, and that kept him from doing too much damage. I got a lot of ECs down pretty quick and he was trying to use his Faith of Noah for a tutor+board wipe, but knowing he had that, I was able to play around it. If he had used the Faith of Noah to get Ark right away, it likely would have been a much closer game. Final score: 5-0 win.
Round 2 vs JD C.
JD was using a Throne deck, but I was able to go first and got both Wasting Disease and Babel up on turn 1. This kept his offense from getting started and his defense from being very effective. Final score: 5-2 win.
Round 3 vs Josh P.
Josh had opening hand Jeremiah to negate my two Lost Souls (which were Hunter and Prosperity I believe), which definitely kept me from getting a better start. This was a very back and forth game which involved me ripping my first Plot to take out some of his key Heroes and him using the very strong Proud Pharisee/Unsuccessful block. This was the game where I banished Vain Visions with Great White Throne, which made for a very awkward Prophets of Baal block...in the end, I got the time out win. Final score: 4-3 win.
Round 4 vs Jonathan G.
This game got off to a rather poor start as Jonathan had opening hand The Exodus which discarded none other than Son of God right off the bottom of my deck...
However, I knew I still had a good chance to win for a couple reasons: 1) my deck was 57 and thus the Mill factor would be mitigated 2) I helped build and test the deck he was using so I knew what I needed to do in order to win--namely, be aggressive and keep the pressure on him to block. That's exactly what I did and though it was a close game for much of the game, I ended up winning 3 LS on the final three turns as he ran out of blocking options. Final score: 5-2 win.
Round 5 vs Josiah B.
Even though Josiah had the advantage with LS by drawing both Darkness and Exiles, I was feeling pretty good with my opening hand holding Woes and Martyr. I allowed Exiles to resolve even though he grabbed I am Creator as my plan was to use Martyr on the AutO I surmised he would take. When I am Creator instead pulled out Abigail, my heart sank as I knew that could only mean he also had AutO in his opening hand...sure enough, everything came out, and I was scrambling the entire game and never caught quite up. In the end, I never even used Martyr though I might have been able to stall one more turn if I had sniped Ahimelek before Josiah's final rescue. Final score: 0-5 loss.
Round 6 vs. Charles L.
This is the game where Wasting Disease really shined. I got it out turn 1 and basically forced Charles to trade a card every time he searched for something. I also got Babel fairly early and this put added pressure on his defense (stopped a potential Uzzah block). Eventually he pulled Abe's Descendant to snag WD, and this allowed him to start setting up his Genegyptians. We had one epic battle where I played a battle winner, he used a negate, I triggered Polycarp, he used another negate, I used another battle winner, and then he used an interrupt/play next to play Failed Objective. Though he managed to stall in that battle, it used up all his resources while I was able to keep my hand restocked and won a couple turns later as he had no EE left in hand. Final score: 5-0 win.
Round 7 vs Jay C.
This was another epic game with great plays on both sides. At one point Jay had both Unsuccessful and Faith Among Corruption on the table. I used Mourn & Weep followed by Flying Scroll to bait those two negates after which I used Confusion to take out Son of God followed by Reap the Whirlwind to win the battle. I thought I had the game wrapped up at that point, but Jay still had Falling Away and got 2 blocks with Uzzah (recurring him with Noah) as my Babel stayed hidden in deck. He also got off The Flood in a side battle which wiped out both our defenses. I used a Plot to stall his final rescue attempt and salvage a time out loss with Falling Away also still hiding in my deck. Final score: 3-4 loss.
Top Cut Round 1 vs Josh P.
This game was great...but the ending left something to be desired... We went back and forth all game making clutch plays, rescues and blocks. I do recall I had some tough decisions between choosing to draw (Damsel) or having a better chance at a successful block. When the game was 3-3 and Josh was rescuing, I decided my best chance was to surrender LS #4 while playing Mourn & Weep in hopes that I would get 2 more turns to rescue with him missing a rescue in between. Unfortunately we ran out of time, and I only got one more turn to rescue, which got the 4-4 tie only to lose on the higher seed tiebreaker. Final score: 4-4 "loss."
