Report:
Game 1: Kye Murphy 5-3
Great player from North Liberty group. Abom had me on the ropes for a great deal of the game, I kept enough characters in hand to mitigate the damage of an early Abom. Very close game.
Game 2: John Early: 2-5
I got rocked by the best deck and player of season. I had played earlier versions of the list at MN State, and NC Regionals going 1-1-0. I had added the Samson + Angel with Secret Name + Shrine to Artemis trick to get some harder to remove site access specifically for John. Sites came early unlike the prior two big tournament games and access was cut off pretty quick. Abom didn't do much damage as I was able to Shine it away 3 times.
Game 3: Patrick Chung 5-2
Defense got set up pretty early. Holy Grail + Jephthah + AotL paved way for offense to walk in for plenty of rescue.
Game 4: Thang Lee 5-0
Defense got set up quick. He didn't have an answer for Bulletproof Gideon. His offense didn't have an answer for my defensive recursion.
Charles Johnson 1-5
Charles defense was rock solid. Multiple preblock ignore plays put a hurting on my defense. Wasn't able to recover.
John Masters 5-2
Defenses set up pretty early. Had a CBN Trumpets & Torches against Elymas for one. Used Stone of Thebez in a side battle off of Sword Against Sword to get another in an important mid game rescue. Tough game for Jon 1 turn away from his SOG for win.
Westy 5-0
Hit Westy with a turn two Mayhem after playing down all card in my hand except Ehud's Dagger. Defense set up quick and lock completely shut down his Toss Disciples offense. Grail + Jephthah + The Priest of Zeus + Gideon's Call hide/ destroyed what little defense he had available and I made quick work of it.
Top Cut:
Josiah Beers 2-5
The biggest plays in my defense do nothing against angels with the exception of Seized by Rioters. I was able to scrounge a few blocks with Simon the Magician/Demetrius + Seized by Rioters + Shrine to Artemis but that was about it. Great meta call by Josiah with the Angels/Demons build.
Thanks to John and Gabe for going through some final minor tweaks the night before the tournament. Its kinda ironic that 2 speeds combo I had specifically build this list to utilize never made the Nationals list. Samuel + King David + Shrine to Artemis and Pretensions + Shrine to Artemis. Pretension was cut when Entrapping Pharisee got cut due to inconsistency. And Samuel + King David were cut for Deborah and Samson. I didn't miss Samuel or King David in a single game. The swap made Gideon's Call much more consistent, added a CBN option for Edict, an option to rescue the Female only soul, and 7th gold hero increasing the consistency.
