T1-2P 1st place PA states

Ladies and gentlemen it has been an interesting year in tournaments. i have (for some reason) won 12 tournaments this year. the success has been all on this deck and varients of it. i don't have a name for it (yet) and will take suggestions. but this past saturday was PA states and this is the game summaries:

the car ride to pa states was long and i get car sick really easy so (after downing 4 tums) i start burping up stomach acid and it was terrible. my focus was needless to say concerned with other matters during the 1st round.

Round 1: (5-3) win
As soon as it started the opposition was destroying me. he went up 2-0 and all he needed was one more soul then sog/nj. i came back and tied the game at 2-2. he got 3 and i was sure he would end it. he couldn't draw sog/nj. i was begging for him to win the game so i could run off to the restroom and puke. but i tied it up again so it was 3-3. the next turn i drew sog/nj to win.

Round 2: (5-1) win
i felt really bad about this game. i faced a newer player from pa who had won by an amazing draw previously. i used hur for 4 out of the 5 rescue attempts. i rescued a soul each turn.

round 3: vs. chronic apathy. (5-3) win
he had one of the most twisted decks i had ever seen. but he got the worst draw in the world. i got up 2-0 quickly, played search (but not for sog/nj) i played it to force him to waste his sog. it worked. after i got up 3-1, he tied the game at 3-3 as i couldn't draw anything good. but after 4 turns of niether of us getting souls he drew the 2-liner and i grabbed sog/nj for the win.

round 4: (5-4) win
this was the toughest game i played all year. i was finally at the top table. my opponant was playing a perfect tournament. he won his previous 3 games by scores of 5-0 each. from the start he was obliterating me. he went up 4-0! i played sog without nj. he decked and i walked in with prophet bands for 4 straight rescues for the win.

round 5: (3-1) win
the whole reason that i am posting is because of the ending to this game. i got past my opponant's defence 1 time before he site locked me out. he played land dispute on my herod's temple that had a lamp in it then he played don on my tempel veil. i played sog/nj to get my score as high as it could go. 3. my opponant's offence was only john the baptist (white) watchful servent, lay down your life, goshen (w), and lifting the curse. the rest of his deck was the biggest defence i had ever seen. i was ready to quit and preparing to lose. i assumed that he would wait for me to deck then he would walk in for the win. well i decked. he made a ra with watchful servent i played cm. he used lay down your life on john the baptist. i made a battle challenge with my john the baptist (di) and hidden treasures was active. i played provisions (pre-block) to set aside his watchful servant. he declined my challenge. next turn i activated DARIOUS' DECREE to put the nail in the coffin! he played sog to get his only soul. the most epic game was over. i want a rematch with this guy so much.

i will post the deck later, as i am at the library and didn't bring the cards. i don't have internet at my house so next time i come assuming this post hasn't been locked i will reply with my deck.

                             until then,
I AM DANIEL (and i am a state champion)

...the rest of his deck was the biggest defence i had ever seen.
You need to play against more defensive decks, mine is over twice that size.  :maul:

Congrats on the win. I'm interested to see the deck.
i made a battle challenge with my john the baptist (di) and hidden treasures was active. i played provisions (pre-block) to set aside his watchful servant.
That was a brilliant play. I must confess, I probably wouldn't have thought of that and accepted defeat.

It's been talked about in another thread, but this particular play actually isn't legal.  You can't play a good set aside card (ie. Provisions) on one of your opponent's heroes.  However, the opponent didn't call for a ruling, so they both played the way they thought it worked.  No harm done, but people should know for the future that this won't work.

Interesting. Why is there a difference between good and evil? As long as you're in battle, you should be able to set aside your opponent's characters, IMO. It's not "harming" the hero.

Even if you can set aside your opponent's heroes with your set asides in battle, I think the problem is that Provisions says "Set hero aside..." instead of "Set a hero aside..." like the old "+1/1 per turn" set asides do, meaning it targets the hero that used it.

Provisions (Ki)
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Green • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Set Hero aside for 2 turns. On return, holder may draw 2 cards and may choose the Evil Character his opponent's uses to block Hero's next rescue attempt. • Errata: Set aside Hero for 2 turns. On return, holder may draw 2 cards, and hero gains the ability (for Hero’s next rescue attempt only) “Holder may choose the Evil Character opponent uses to block” [choose opponent].

That's funny, I was told in a thread that one could target an opponent's heroes with a set aside, but only in battle.

Ah, that's the part I was forgetting.  Now that I remember, the conversation started over Interceding for Battle.

For evil you can set aside your opponent's characters (such as with Two Possessed by Demons), so long as you are in battle.
