Title: Seated outside the Tomb - brand new T1 2P deck goes undefeated
Post by: Gohanick on December 30, 2009, 11:02:59 PM
We just finished up 2 consecutive tourneys here in Mass. I had a blast with everyone there. We had a range of new players to returning veterans. I decided that I didn't want to play my site lockout - endgame near heroless deck the second day so instead, I built this deck:

Seated outside the Tomb

Dominants:
10
Son of God
New jerusalem
Angel of the Lord
Grapes of Wrath
Guardian of Your Souls
Christian Martyr
Burial
Falling Away
Destruction
Mayhem

Lost Souls: 8
Hopper
N.T. only
Female only
First round protect
2 liner
anti burial
exchanger
anti shuffle/exchange

Artifacts: 4
Chariots of Fire
Three Nails
Holy Grail
Samaritan Water Jar

Fortresses:
2
Judge's Seat
Garden Tomb

Heroes:
11
Ehud
Eli the Priest
Ibzan
Moses
Zaccheus
Simeon
Woman at the Well
Claudia
Jacob
Captain of the Host
Peter

Good Enhancements:
4
Battle Prayer
Samson's Sacrifice
Deborah's Directive
Meeting the Messiah

Evil Characters:
6
Red Dragon
Nebuchadneezzar
The Winged Lion
Nebushasban
Nergalsharezer
King Rehoboam

Evil Enhancements: 5
Dream
Swift Horses
Nebuchadnezzar's Pride
Belshazzar's Banquet
Desecrate the Temple

Combos and Deck Theory

Deck Size - 50 cards 8 lost souls. I found that I usually got the most lost souls each game to choose who goes first

Woman at the Well is nice for creating targets for Seat, Grail, and Meeting the Messiah

Several ways to generate lost souls (Woman at the well, Mayhem, Samaritan Water Jar Hopper) and I keep them in play with the Anti Shuffler

In my tourney games I never used Samson's Sacrifice or Battle Prayer

3 Nails was key against a gates deck I played. I got Woman at the well first turn and was able to rip seven sons of sceva and get rid of him quickly

Deborah's Directive when played on Ibzan grants total CBN and can bring in characters such as Moses or Jacob to Captain

In one game I played Meeting the Messiah on myself to draw 2 more cards (it helped me get my NJ to end the game)

King Rehoboam was meant to use my heroes or theirs to fight off their pesky heroes or more importantly be able to play Samson's Sacrifice without avail if they dont have any targets I want to choose with my ehud or pass off initiative in battle by discarding their EC

In my final game I had a key Samaritan Water Jar use first turn and was able to set aside Reyzen's SoG,Transfiguration,Prince of this World, some other good cards and bring his hopper into his territory.

I really like this deck, it just seems like the defense would be a non factor against speed. Although I can't argue with your results. Have you had any problems or frustrations with it?

Hey! :-p You can hardly say this went undefeated... just after the tournament finished I played (and beat) you cause we didn't play during the tournament.  For those interested, I was using an Abomination of Desolation deck that I forgot to put Meeting the Messiah into...

Can I ask why Peter is the only Tomb hero? It doesn't seem like it would be that useful to include because of that. I'm not sure offhand what I would add instead of those 2, but at face value it seems like there are more useful ideas in the other colors you have. Did he win you a lot of souls?

Have you ever played a hero-lite/heroless vs this? I'm curious how it would go down.
