This deck took 1st at prof underwoods local.
Of course it was losing to said prof when time ran out ;)
-
You were locked out and you know it
-
As long as you're a fast player, this is a pretty solid deck, but I have a few suggestions.
Dominants. They're useful. I recommend SoG, Grapes, Destruction, Mayhem, Burial (given your soul choice), and Martyr.
How do you stop Goliath? As soon as you put Wall down, you're pretty much locked out (except for perhaps Thaddeus). I'd drop all 3 Wall of Protections, and add in another Zaccheus.
I don't like spread defenses in big decks. They just won't work reliably. Between Gray/Orange, I recommend going orange. Or mixed gray, Pharisees work decently well with Romans and Syrians.
You can only have one Just a Hireling. Sorry bro, it's multicolored. The same applies for Passover Hymn.
Take out a James, Son of Zeb and stick in another Matthew.
-
I'm not accustomed to decks this size, but having only one dominant stuck out to me. ???
-
Just trying something new, thanks for the advice
-
I can still attack from my hand if goliath comes in to battle
-
If your trying to run low doms I recommend the old school four SoG, CM, AotL and FA. If your looking for more utility Don and Grapes are handy. But really there is no reason you need to run more then four doms in any Type 1 deck.
*Note I am a super left wing player so my advice is by no means mainstream :P
-
Seriously though, you're going to need to fix that Passover Hymn and Just a Hireling problem.
Also, I'd use more than one Holy of Holies. It just works so well with Trembling Demon.
-
Dominants. They're useful. I recommend SoG, Grapes, Destruction, Mayhem, Burial (given your soul choice), and Martyr.
I wouldn't use Grapes or Mayhem, as you'd rather not shuffle your deck and mess up all the stuff that you put on the bottom. I'm not sure that you'd like Burial either considering that you'd rather shuffle that half-rescued 2-liner and pull it back out again than bury it. And Martyr could be useful, but with as much banding as people do these days, I'm finding it less useful than it used to be.

Brian is right that he could attack from hand. However, only if that character in his hand was not already down (which could be unlikely with this offense). So it will be important to either take out Wall or making sure that you underdeck the disciple that is in both your hand and territory using Fishing Boat.

I like Orange way better than Romans or Syrians, so I wouldn't do mixed grey. But going straight orange is a bit limiting as well, so I like throwing in the pharisees to add speed and options. Another alternative would be to replace the pharisees with Babylonians or Magicians. These both have more synergy with Orange, but are both slower than Pharisees.

I think I agree with Westy on these.
Also, I'd use more than one Holy of Holies. It just works so well with Trembling Demon.
This is also probably a good idea.

I like the deck. Have you ever tried to make a smaller version?
Madness seems good with enhancements to play on it. Daniel might hurt the deck though as it is mostly NT on defense. I usually add in Golgotha with NT defenses, especially demons to stop the occasional Three Nails, but you have Seven Sons for that.
I agree HoH is a must.
Nazzy is an option for this deck as you dont search much and it stops people from searching your deck plus shuts down alot of decks.
-Demon Shuffler x3
-Good Dom Shuffle x3
these may not be good for your deck because you dont want shuffle effects when you are setting up your deck. sometimes shuffle effects are needed though if you put things on the bottom that you dont want there...
Wall stops your opponent from banding to your defense which is good and you can play around Goliath if you play smart. maybe 3 too many though.

Mayhem is pretty much necessary as a potential mulligan for a bad draw. If you don't want the defense from Laver, just discard it with Gates before you Mayhem. Burial makes the liner able to be a SoG/NJ counter, so you don't have to leave a half rescued liner out for a turn or until you draw SSS/JiH.
I'm from Minnesota, so...Orange is bad. At least in big decks, simply because they don't have the enhancement power (or really character power, at this point) to maintain the kind of strength a 154 needs. The issue with going Orange/PG or Orange/Babylonians is that with a 154, you're going to be getting pieces of offense, pieces of defense, etc. and you want your defense to be one whole so that it's just split between offense, defense, and neutral. There's no extra category that could hand screw you.
Ultimately, the only way to test what defense works best is by trying them out.
And despite being able to play around Goliath, I really don't see the need for Wall.

This could be a good idea. Naz does really mess with a lot of other decks more than it would yours. You could just wait until you had your GoH and Fishing Boat out before putting it down.
-Demon Shuffler x3
-Good Dom Shuffle x3
these may not be good for your deck
This is also a good point. Perhaps you could replace them with the CBP LS x3 and maybe Revealer LS x3.

I know that's the joke here on the board, but I think orange is great in a 154 card deck. Even if the characters and enhancements fail you, you can always just end up Gatesing out another 2-liner to give your opponent half of.
-
I think this deck loses to a philistine defense. Even a small one. Because you can't really beat Goliath.
-
Assuming anyone in his playgroup even uses Goliath, I really don't think he's going to have nearly the problems against Goliath as you folks say he will. All he has to do is play smart. He has several ways to deal with the "Goliath + WoP" problem.

I agree. In fact, it is often to a player's advantage to feign weakness vs. Goliath, since he is a 10/10 that will almost always give away initiative. Goliath is probably one of the best ECs in the early game vs. a fast deck, but this deck is neither fast, nor designed to win early.
However, if you do find GMan to become a bit of a problem, I might suggest adding a Grail or three. No one uses Temple of Dagon except in fun/trick decks, and a converted Goliath is typically very difficult to get rid of (or at least it will cost your opponent a better use for his Grapes/CM if he is desperate) to use for Philly Outpost.

Orange Evil Characters are pretty easily splashed. Just use The Terrifying Beast and stuff. Gates is also useful for grabbing two liners when you need them.
-
The majority of my T2 decks the last few years have had a splash of Orange. What can I say, I'm a rebel... 8)
-
I would say three walls is a bit to much. What are you so worried about that you have three of them?
-
Just to make sure he draws one.
Might be better off swapping a WoP for King Hiram. He gets initiative to play AoC and can draw a card once you already have WoP so it's not a wasted card slot.
-
I ran into a big Philly defense and goliath wasn't a problem, because i knew he was coming.
