Redemption Tokens Think Tank

There's been a little discussion lately about releasing official tokens for the game now that Majestic Heavens is getting some token-making friends in GoC. It seems like most people are on board according to the poll on Facebook, but I'm curious to know people's thoughts on how to go about distributing them and paying for them and such.

Should they replace Commons in packs like Legacy Rares? Should they just be "free" with one randomly put in each pack? If so, how many distinct tokens should there be in order to make that worth it and would that add to the cost of the pack? Maybe they're randomly inserted in only some packs but not all. Or should they not come in packs at all and just sold like singles straight away? Or maybe given alongside promos for tournament participation?

Obviously this is all up to Rob and to some degree his advisory Redemption Elders so similarly to the Starter Deck think tank this is by no means an official announcement that tokens will happen or that the majority opinion will get enacted. Just a place to get some ideas out there past saying "of course I want official tokens".

Thoughts?

How about an official Token pack that Cactus could sell that would include a sizable number of Tokens, Majestic Heavens, and then a new promo card to give further incentive to buy it? So instead of increasing the price of boosters, we make a one time purchase and have enough for our collections?

I just opened up a box of GoC and noticed that the territory class explanation was printed on the inside of the cardboard packaging for each individual pack from TeP.  It should be pretty easy to do the same thing again but just having it be a token, either with phase 2 or maybe only in GoC super packs or in subsequent expansions or whatever. (with the new packaging)  That way, there is little to no added cost and people can just cut them out and don't even need to sleeve them.

There are also plenty of Classic cards that could act as tokens.  I'm sure there are hundreds of Ahithophel being used to prop up uneven end tables that can once again be put to good use.
May you prosper greatly!

I like the idea of having tokens available for print out or cut out for those who just want to play and need sth. for token usage. But I also like the idea of having them either being sold as extra pack or sth. like that for the more ambitious collectors and collecting players who want everything smooth and shiny according to the game and its products.

I like the idea of a tokens pack. Because they are not something that is needed, just nice to have. And maybe when phase 1 and 2 are combined or the next set add some into packs. adding them into the combined packs for GoC would give some extra value to the packs after people had already had access the set from phase 1 and 2 packs. Also I'd suggest raising the price a little and flipping them in for some of the I/J and tin cards to give more variety to the extra cards in the packs.

I wouldn't want to raise the cost of packs to get a card that isn't real.  If they are printed like other cards I would hope they'd be their own pack, or included in a starter/gift set of some kind.  Then people who want to buy nothing can do so without forcing people who don't want to buy nothing to buy nothing.  I would probably buy a couple of nothings but having to buy a little nothing every time I want to buy little something would bother me.

I prefer for tokens to just be small pretzels or M&Ms. That way, if they’re removed from play, I can just eat them. I always get snacky when I play redemption. And besides, how unique is it to rescue with a pretzel or M&M, or have one of those in your LoB?

Tokens are similar to energy for Pokemon. It's required but no one really cares or wants to actually buy them so they get included with basically any card product you buy as a bonus. For our game, I could similarly see tokens being added as "bonus" items in a pack, but I would NEVER want to see a card slot in a booster pack for new cards be replaced with a token I may or may not use. However, I do think that Cactus could offer some "official game token" product, whatever that is. Maybe just the printables would be sufficient. Some of the cooler ideas are less so due to the vast number of tokens you may need for cards like The Church of Christ. I was going to suggest a coin that has a different token's name and stats on one side and a different on the reverse so you play it with which side you need facing up.  But you'd potentially need 20 plus coins.

I also hope that tokens are not something that lead to specific rules in the future on what can and cannot be used, thus forcing players to buy a specific thing to use cards that generate tokens. Tokens are definitely a fun concept, however, in application, I think it's best to be flexible on what can be used which will allow a certain element of creativity for payers using cards that create tokens.

I think the perfect place to handout tokens would be at Nationals as sort of currency. Give them out with every win and participation for the events and then have a trade in program for other promos for those who do not want them. They can also be traded with other players. A promo pack is the easiest solution. However, integrating it into Nationals sound like a far more enjoyable way of going about it. The price for printing the promos could be factored into the entry of an event. Doing it at Nationals would give the tokens a form of value/ prestige but would also have to be printed in large quantities to allow for accessibility.
Keyforge (another card game I play) does something similar at there largest events with a prize wall. You gain points from events and opening packs (or decks in Keyforge's case) and then redeem them at a prize wall. This method for redemption could be used in tandem with the auction. If the idea of a prize wall or trade in program is too much, they could just be handed out alongside other promos as I stated before.

Thanks for your time,
J.S.

I would be onboard with this idea.

I would also be onboard with a printable token already sized that could be printed on some heavy stock, cut out and used as is... OR printed on regular paper, cut out and adhered to one of the umpteen classic cards I have laying around...
