Along with this preview I'd like to mention that we are testing the idea of having "STAR" abilities activate not only from the opening hand but anytime the "STAR" card is drawn by game rule (aka, not searched, taken or drawn by special ability).

I'm conflicted on this.  I like the idea of star abilities not being useless after the first turn, and this would definitely solve my concern about the usefulness of Doomed Canaanite's * ability. However, I have 2 concerns about them being able to be activated off of any game rule draw:

1.  Time - If each turn you and your opponent are able to activate more * abilities, say something on the level of the newly spoiled Aaron, at a rate of 0-3 per turn, that could easily take an additional 30-60 seconds per turn per card.  In casual play this probably doesn't matter, but will definitely slow tournament games down, especially since that is when people will want to make sure they know exactly what each * card you reveal does and you may have to make some important decisions.

2.  Lack of Counterplay - Not being able to do anything about your opponent getting a couple of (at least a this point 'minor') effects opening draw is a disadvantage.  If they can keep doing it all game these benefits will just keep snowballing.  So I hope that if * abilities do go the route of being able to be activated all game long there will be some cards printed (maybe just haven't yet been revealed!) that can prevent or restrict these abilities because as of right now I don't think that most cards can interact with them.

So yes, I'll be very interested to hear how the testing goes

Maybe "400 Years of Silence" should restrict STAR abilities from activating instead of the current ability.

Maybe there should be a limit on how many star cards you can have in a deck.

This might be too complex, but it might be interesting thematically if they only activated before you played SoG.

Personally, I think it's way too early to tell if we need a bunch of counters to "star" cards. Although you might notice that starting with CoW we've been building in set counters to the sets new/strong themes each year. Unless we drop the ball there will be at least some minor counters to "star" cards.

The theme of my previews today is evil cards that fit into two different defenses. But to be honest I'm the most excited for the card John is going to preview later!

Definitely appreciate that line of thinking.  Was frustrating in older sets when counters would not be printed to new mechanics until the following year.  Speaking of this, it would be nice if there was something that could hinder 'reveal and add to hand' or 'look and add to hand', as those kind of effects seem to have become a lot more common recently.

Just wondering if there is going to be any Taunt , Toss abilities , counters for end the battle abilities (I guess mostly for type 2) or Issacher in this set??

I hope so.

Not really sure what I think about the star abilities being active if drawn by game rule.  I like the idea but it seems like it is possible that is could make the games a little longer in time at tournaments which may not be a good thing.

Would be interesting to know what the play test results would be.

Mounted Forces is great. If absolutely nothing else throw the horse from the other brigade into your reserve for some neat access - not to mention some of the other really good OT pg/crimson enhancements.

I like the design on Withered/Worm. I know it's brown because Jonah was a rebellious Hebrew, but is there any consideration for making it part PG as well, to go with the Assyrians? Worm is neat as well - fun with Lurking or similar effects especially.

EDIT: The wording "OT enhancement of matching brigade" combined with the Assyrian identifier makes me wonder if maybe there's some conversion synergy among the Jonah cards in this set.

This was my first thought as well. Not sure why it wouldn’t have PG.

Rarities are one of the last things we determine. Since we've started previewing cards so early this time around neither the rarities or number have been determined yet. Once it has be assured that we'll release all of the information. It's possible we've already seen an early rendition of one of the ultra rares.

That seems like a good idea! I'm happy to add PG to the EE side. It could probably go on The Worm too. Please check out the updated image.

Wow! Awesome new cards! But isn't Crimson already almost overpowered (well while I like it getting more options - even more in combination with brown - and even even more as EEEC - versatility OP!  ).

I hate this guy because he absolutely wrecked me in a play test game I played. At the time, he didn't have unity, which made him super scary splashed with the new lions and a few other powerful cards that haven't been revealed yet.

Well that's moderately terrifying.

That unity seems warranted - this in combination with the Leviathan defense we saw this season would be formidable. As it stands, Babs are looking quite strong again this year.

I assume that his take activates after the ability on the enhancement resolves?

I hate this guy because he absolutely wrecked me in a play test game I played. At the time, he didn't have unity, which made him super scary splashed with the new lions and a few other powerful cards that haven't been revealed yet.

I like it, I can't wait to use it against Music Leader!  Definitely deserves the unity though, for a second I thought I'd be seeing those everywhere.
