will star abilities be optional by game rule or only if there is "may" in the ability?

All stars are optional

For Carcasses, does a dual icon human card mean cards like King Saul (CoW) and King Jehu (FoM)?

Yes

Man, Balaam seems good this year. Implied PG curses, CBP battlewinners...

On a tangentially related note, I wonder which LRs we're getting this year.

when you use a star ability, does the card get discarded or return to hand?

If you choose to use a star ability, you reveal the card and carry out the ability. Revealed cards remain in the location they came from unless an ability says otherwise. In most instances that means the star card stays in your hand.

Concerning Balaam's Prophecy....wouldn't a dual alignment card be better? Good green/evil pale green. I mean it is a true prophecy, right? Just my 2 cents

Who showed you our set list?!  ::)

Concerning Balaam's Prophecy....wouldn't a dual alignment card be better? Good green/evil pale green. I mean it is a true prophecy, right? Just my 2 cents

Excellent observation! It started out as a DAE. Similar to the past few sets there were a lot of dual alignment cards on initial our list. With RoJ and FoM it made sense with the theme to have a larger than normal amount of those. They don’t fit as well with our focus this year so we trimmed down the total count considerably.

The star abilities are also in direct conflict with cards that have 2 icons in the SA. Since the star abilities are our primary new mechanic, if we have to choose between the 2 options we will usually choose the star.

To help show how the entire Old Testament points to the coming Messiah, one thing we've done in this set is focused on the role of prophet, priest and king (Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of all 3 offices). One of our very first previews was God's prototype prophet - Moses, Friend of God. Here's God's prototype priest.

So, looking back on card lists, I had a thought. We have God's prototype prophet in Moses and God's prototype Priest in Aaron. Does that mean we're getting a new Saul (or possibly David) to represent God's prototype King?

Cause I'm really wondering how that'll balance around Throne.

In no way can it be Saul as he prophetically does not meet the foreshadowing of Israel’s true King (Jesus) in several ways. It will be David.

I can give you a card title - David, God’s King.

That is an epic name. It's also fitting that after we had two Davids in Cloud that were sort of updates to the Warriors and Kings Davids, now we're getting another David that sounds like an update to King David.

We have some great Christmas themed cards in this set since there were so many prophecies about the Messiah’s birth. Very cool that they will be released before Christmas! The City Travis came up with for the next seasonal promo fits perfectly! 8)

Agreed, and following the example of Moses and Aaron, I expect the new David to be pure purple.

I'm really hoping for a mono purple David. It would be awesome to see combined with a new Throne that supports a royalty deck.
