Josh, we will have to plan a game night at my house. I have Settlers of Catan with all the expansions, and I have Shadows Over Camelot with the Merlin's Company expansion. My family gets together with the Weiss family for game nights and we play both games a lot.
Would love to, I do not have a car however so I'd need a ride (I could pay for gas). I miss getting to see you guys.

I just want to thank all of you for your great help in this endeavor!

Some favorites from my collection and/or popular in my club:

Co-operative games (a personal favorite of mine):
Pandemic
Flashpoint: Fire Rescue
Defenders of the Realm

Games for 5-7 players:
Cosmic Encounter (Fantasy Flight edition is the best)
Battlestar Galactica

Games for 3-6 players:
7 Wonders
Power Grid
Cutthroat Caverns
Risk: Legacy (board is constantly changing from game to game!)

2-player games:
1960
Memoir '44
War of the Ring
Earth Reborn

Space games:
Starcraft
Eclipse
Alien Frontiers
Ad Astra

Card games:
Dominion
Eminent Domain
Core Worlds
Hanabi
Marvel: Legendary

Grab Bag:
Seasons
Ground Floor
Star Trek: Fleet Captains
Firefly
Mage Wars
Sunrise City
Escape: Curse of the Temple

Qualifier: some of these games include references to the use of magic, including Seasons, Mage Wars and Defenders of the Realm.  But I guess that's a thing now.  If Lovecraft is kosher for you, Arkham Horror is a great co-op game, and Elder Sign is AH in less than half the time but pretty much all-dice.

So... you just blew my mind that there is a Firefly game.  How is it?

So... you just blew my mind that there is a Firefly game.  How is it?

It's an okay pick-up-and-deliver game, but it takes forever to build up the resources you need to make the big goals, and you can be wiped out by one bad draw/die roll, and there's a high degree of randomness.  But, I guess that's kind of thematic, given how brutal space is, as portrayed in the show.  But it's dripping with theme, and every card has a significant degree of nostalgic awesomeness.  So the theme alone means I'll be playing it again.

I'm waiting to see what they do with the Out to the Black card game this fall, though: that one is cooperative, with each person taking a "station" as one of the main characters of the show.  And that feels more like the Firefly game I would want to play, in my mind.

The specifics of that campaign are a bit muddled and apparently shrouded in secrecy. The word is the game is still planned for a fall release.

Schaef, do you still sell games? I had bought my Settlers of Catan collection from you. I was looking into someday buying Dominion or Ticket to Ride. However, some of your other games sound interesting. I have a dedicated gaming group that likes to play 6-10 player games, when possible. We love cooperative games like Shadows Over Camelot. We have a good mix of competitive players and just-for-fun players, with ages from 12-44. Magic elements are fine. Any recommendations?

The store is on hiatus for now, but let's be honest, with the setup I had at the time, you could have priced your games better just about anywhere, but for the Storehouse credit.  For myself, I go to boardsandbits, though thoughthammer and coolstuffinc will also serve well.

If you don't want to split up that group, there's always party games like Telestrations or Time's Up.  For non-party there's The Resistance (Avalon is a superior, Arthurian version of this), Formula D, or Saboteur.  You can also play Ricochet Robots with large groups.

I can vouch for Avalon (The Resistance). My group has really enjoyed that game.

Another co-op game we recently discovered is Sentinels of the Multiverse, a superhero game in which you each player has their own unique deck for their hero and you fight against a common villain who has his own deck. I really like it and it has been pretty easy for the hardcore strategy players and casual players alike to learn.

Don't forget Malta!.... I'm partial to my signed copy from Tim Meirz... It is a different playing field each game and is a blast.

Memoir 44' is fun also.

Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a fun co-op card game. (You might want to buy a few expansions.)

Is it challenging (Easy to learn, forever to master)? (Best part of co-op games for us)

Yes. The base set comes with 10 heroes, 4 villains, and 4 terrains (places you play) - all with unique decks. There are several expansions to provide more options too. Each deck has a complexity or difficulty associated with it to make things more interesting.

Make sure you get the revised 2nd edition set as it has better instructions and accessories.

If you can find it, one of my favorite games was the Mad Magazine Board Game. Alot of weird things to do (like exchanging money with people, trading seats without taking your money, or acting like a chicken or a rock) with the object to be the first person to lose your money. Sort of reminds me of Congress lol.
Two wrongs don't make a right but three rights make a left. Either way, God will get you there.
