Redemption = Ecconomic?

One of my co-workers recently retired from another card game, stating that it was to expensive to play. According to him, you can buy several boosters, and only get one good card. And it's probably not the good card you need to improve your deck. From the way he made it sound, to be competitive at tournaments, you need a deck with nothing but Rares/UltraRares. Not sure how trading was at tournaments or playgroups, didn't ask. Told him, Redemption wasn't like that. out or 11 sets, 3 of them don't have any Rares/UltraRares (Women, FooF and RoA) and two of those sets are still on the market. I also said that there have been competitions to make "tournament competitive" decks without any Rares/UltraRares. I've played another CCG, and it was like that where you needed the Rares/UltraRares to be any good. Redemption isn't like that, is it? Granted those cards help, but you can have a deck with primarily commons and uncommons and still fare pretty well most of the time, right?

Wrong. FoOF and RoA are all considered "rare" as in trade value, not availability.

I dissagreee.  I think what he is saying is that you have just as likely a chance to get X card as get Y card in these recent sets because you can choose which set you buy.

I agree with the first post.  I have actually won with some of those common/uncommon only decks

Yeah, I was aiming for more of the availability of the cards, not trade value. Sorry for the confusion.

A few URs are needed for decks (NJ) but I agree, redemption is more economic than most other games.

I definitely agree, because this is a deliberate decision on Rob's part, to make at least some of the commons powerful to prevent top-heavy costs to build a quality deck.  Michael may have been an ultra-rare but Gabriel was merely uncommon.  Not to mention the most powerful cards in the game, the four staple Dominants, come packed in the starters.

Another thing that makes Redemption affordable is that it only takes a one time initial investment to get the staple cards for your deck (NJ, Falling Away, any rare Lost Souls you want, etc).  After that you're able to use those same cards in every deck you build.

In some other games the legal sets rotate and you have to get new cards to keep your deck legal.

Yeah, thats another thing thats cool. How now cards are "banned" or "no longer legal." So you know no matter what set or cards you get, you can easily put any of those cards in your deck. I'll prolly show him my decks at a party coming up in like 2 weeks, as it will be the first available time we will have to hang out. Maybe even Try to work on a common/uncommon deck for him, from the last contest.
