Redemption Chess Championship

This is a sequel to the original COT (Chess Online Tournament).  I hereby humbly present to you the...

ROCK (Redemption Online Chess Kings)

ALL ARE WELCOME to join, as there are no conditions at all, whatsoever.  Because The Schaef amazingly (and quite surprisingly!) created the Redemption Chess Club, and because Cameron the Conqueror had this brilliant idea of having a tournament (yet he has given up his role as the tourney director), I thought it would be great to have an ongoing championship monthly so that we can see the best play the best!

If you are interested, please POST (NO pms, so that everyone who is playing knows who they're up against).  I will be recording all the known participants until we get a decent number ready (probably 10-20 players at the most).  On January 2010, the tourney will be kicked off.

The tourney will be in swiss or round robin format...currently undecided.  Once the tourney has begun, you will all be notified via a post on this topic who is paired with who.  Please QUICKLY find out who you are paired with and begin negotiating on a time to play the game through the week ASAP.  Once you agree on a time, you will be accountable for making it to the game at that time.  Failure to begin playing the game at the time required will lose you the game.  Also, failure to agree to a time with your opponent will result in an immediate draw.

The points are awarded as follows:

Win: 3 point
Lose: 1 point
Draw: 2 points

Time controls(more than likely 5 minutes per move if the tourney is played on the boards and more than likely 45 45 if the games are played on FICS) and chess variants are open for discussion.  If we do not have too many players, I will encourage you to sign up for FICS (the Free Internet Chess Server) so we can hold the tournament there.  I am currently the only director for the tournament.  If interested participants begin showing up, I will create a blog/website on Wordpress for the championship and post all the participants, games, scores, etc.  Scoring and participants will also be shown on this topic.

mind if i make a suggestion on points?
how bout this?:
Wins:3 points
Draws:2 points
Losses:1 point
cause i think it's fair to give the "losers" points for trying and i believe it encourages those who aren't so good at all to keep playing.
why i suggest is this reason:
if i was in the tournament with the points the way they are, i'd play game after game and not once get a victory and therefore just discourages me and causes me to unjoin the tournament and be bitter about it.

By the way, do you have an account on FICS, drb1200?  And, if the points system is changed, do you want to join, New Raven and lightningninja?

Just a note, there will not be tangible prizes.  Just the satisfaction of playing well. :)

FICS isn't an online "tournament", but is a great interface that makes for easy concentration and good chess.  Just go to freechess.org and register from there if you want.

I'll get back to you on that...was going to require FICS membership in order to play if there were a few number of participants, but this might change...

I don't think I have time to invest in participating.  However, I would certainly not participate if I couldn't play the games here on the Redemption forum.  If we have the game here, and this tournament is here, and all the players are here, then why make people go somewhere else to play?

Sorry, accidentally deleted the post saying that the Redemption Chess Championship is going to be played on the boards.  This is the replacement post.  Location set.  Post restored.  Problem solved.  World saved.

Hey, what do you guys think about changing the tourney name to ROCK (Redemption Online Chess Kings)?  Makes the acronym a word now-similar to ROOT.

ROCK will officially start Sunday, January 3, 2010.  The participants are: edsnotofthisworld, drb1200, and Kevin Shride.  The tournament will be a Round Robin and the schedule is as follows(to avoid multiple challenges on a player due to there being only 3 participants):

Round 1: drb1200 vs Kevin Shride
Round 2: drb1200 vs edsnotofthisworld
Round 3: Kevin Shride vs edsnotofthisworld

Is this acceptable to the participants?  If not, please post before the 3rd of this month.

Have you guys played?  I don't see any games and time is up by tomorrow.  If you guys haven't I suppose I can move it to next week.  Please post if you've played your game!

Ooooohhh...

Yeah, that's no good.  I suppose, if KS is still interested, he and I can play a series of games.

Still interested, KS?
