Thanks very much for the information, that's very helpful!

For those that have been playing the game for awhile, does buying a second core set make things markedly better/more fun (other than adding the "official" threat trackers for the 3rd and 4th player)? I.e. does it allow you to combine the 2 sets of each deck to make a larger, better deck and/or just give you more options when playing with just the core set and then branching out into the expansions?

Basically, is it worth buying a second core set off the bat or should I save my money for collecting the expansions?
Buying a second Core set is worth it almost just for the extra Gandalfs and that 1 cost purple card that lets you play a ally for one turn. If you like the game just buy a second one.

Now buying a third core set is a different story :p thats where the cost to fun ratio but get a little off balance.

Btw if anyone is interested I would be willing to sell my Lotr LCG collection if the price is right ;D I have....
2 Core Sets
Mirkwood Expansions 1-6
The Hobbit Saga Expansion 1
How much would that generally cost? I haven't played before so I'm not really sure what the range is for the "right" price. :P

Well to buy those seperatly would cost 200.00 so since these are used I would offer 100 to 150 if I was buying it.

I was thinking around $100 since I am missing all the AP boxes (I still have the two core boxes) and inserts... but it's easy enough to download them off of FFG's website anyways.

I think that's a very fair deal. :)

Does anyone have any interest in a weekly challenge thread where someone would post a challenge with a scenario then everyone posts their results and what deck they used or we could have theme deck challenges also just a thought. :)

The Rhosgobel quest is actually pretty good. Just a tip for playing this expansion, stock plenty of healing cards.

Yes, don't use that Glorfindel for this quest. Trust me!

So I've read all the way through the rules booklet but I didn't have a chance last night to actually play a solo game. With just the core set cards (given that I have 2 copies of it) is there a specific deck/hero combination that works well with the included scenarios? I know the 7 one is really tough and the intro one is really easy so I'm wondering what would work best for the 4 one and/or for ones in subsequent expansions.

If I take both copies of each deck and combine them to make a 60-card deck for each sphere of influence would that be beneficial, or would it behoove me to take out some of them to get to the 50 minimum? I haven't had a chance to look through all the cards at this time (I brought them with me to work to shuffle through today but haven't gotten to them yet). Just looking for advice!

EDIT: Started looking through the cards and noticed that the decks have 2 or 3 of some of the cards so combining both decks isn't an option in general. Is it worth adding second or third copies of some of the cards even if it doesn't add up to 50 or is 30/50 the only allowable deck sizes? I don't plan to play any tournaments anytime soon but I like to have legal decks nonetheless. :P

I actually preferred starting with 30 when it was just the core set (I think it was 30) and then when I got all of the expansions I went up to sixty.

I've found this series of blog posts to be extremely helpful in getting used to deck building and constructing a competitive deck with just the core set.

Hope that helps.

I mostly build 50 card decks even with just the Core Set. I also like to build legal decks. :)   I built this deck to beat The Passage Through Mirkwood and Journey Down the Anduin

Cards 52; All cards in this build are in the Core Set.

Heroes 3
Gimli
Aragorn
Eowyn

Allies;24
Faramir x2
Northern Tracker
Snowbourn Scout x3
Guard of the Citadel x3
Lorien Guide x3
Veteran Axehand x3
Gondorian Spearman x3
Gandalf x3
Long Beard Orc Slayer x2

Events;17
Sneak Attack x2
Strength of Willx2
Quick Strike x2
Feint x2
Hasty Strokex2
A Test of Will x2
Stand and Fightx3
Galadhrims Greetingx2

Attachments ;11
Favor of the Lady x2
Dwarven Axe x2
Unexpected Courage x2
Celebrians Stone x1
Blade of Gondolin x2
Steward of Gondor x2

Thoughts; Although you start with a high threat level you can for the most part finish quests quickly with the combo of Eowyn and Aragorn. Gimli and the Dwarves lead the charge in combat and the events take care of the shadow cards.Just post any Questions. :)

With a tri-color deck, and only Leadership for resource generation, do you find yourself with unplayable or expensive cards clogging your hand frequently?

If you can, make a little wiggle room in your deck, AJ for a group of song cards. The cards "Song Of Kings," "Song of Travel," and "Song Of Battle" (I think that's the title) are neutral attachments. Once the card is attached, the hero who is using that card can pay for cards of a different sphere. "Song of Kings" provides Leadership to the card it's attached to, as does "Song of Travel" allow the user to have Spirit, and "Battle allow the use of Tactics. These cards are found in the adventure packs "Hunt For Gollum," "Hills Of Emyn Muil," and "Dead Marshes" respectively.

And BTW, "The Voice of Isengard" expansion FINALLY came out!

I would have used Song of Kings and the others but I was trying to use just cards in the Core set. :)

at Browarod Actualy not that much I usually put Steward of Gondor on Eowyn to get out Northern Tracker as quickly as possible I do have to wait sometimes but for the most part I can play my red and purple. :)

When I'm a little more awake later I will post my revised version of that deck with the APs I have. :)
