When I was little, my version of chess was I win, you lose. Not much intelligence there.

That's alright.  When I was about 7/8/9, I was really not that good.  Around 400-600 elo rating at the most.  Not much intelligence there, either. ;)

Define "good." As far as playing chess goes--the engine is not really very good.

I haven't really spent a lot of time with "Chess Titans." For analysis I use Crafty version 21 or 22, I forget. I started playing around with Crafty back when it was at version 9. :-).

Occasionally I see Chess Titans on display in stores. I do like the fact that when you highlight a piece it shows all the possible moves of the piece clearly and without confusion, pieces in danger are in red, etc. I can't get Chessmaster 9000 to do that nicely. I was able to hack the code for X-board to get it to show legal moves, however, it's not nearly as pretty as Chess Titans. I had heard that Chessmaster 10 or 11 has this feature implemented much better. Any ideas/reports?

Fritz Play Chess also displays all possible moves and threat levels.

I hear Fritz is an excellent game analyzer.  Unfortunately I don't have it.  I prefer Chessmaster over Fritz because of its tutorials and wide variety of skill levels.

Reminder to all those beginners who want to play well:

If at first you don't succeed, try again, and if you still can't get it, you just wasted a whole bunch of time trying to do something you just can't do. :rollin:

What do you do for practice if you don't have a chess PC game, and no one plays against you?

Hmm...can you get online to a free chess server?  If you got onto FICS, I could play you.  If not, then they have many articles of info on websites and they have many computers on the Internet to play for free.  If you have Java, go to Chess.com and click on LittleChessPartner down at the bottom.  Its good for beginners and intermediates.

Does your E-mail get revealed to other people? I'd rather not show it.

Uh, on FICS yes.  They can email you, too.  But I don't know about another server I'm on called Chessville.  If you just use the flash playing site, then I don't think you have to.  But if you use the site interface, I don't really know.  But even if you just use the flash playing site, you still get a rating and play other people.

You can create a gmail account only for this, if you would like. http://gmail.google.com

Well, it looked like there was some demand for the ability for us to chess each other, so I set it up.

I do casual, but there's no way I'm doing competetive chess..lol..

I enjoy(and usually have very good success) in more literal types of games.  Like, I used to be a very good redemption player(won 3 or 4 tourneys out of the 6 or 7 I went to), and I almost always place at Heroscape tourneys.  That stuff never translated into chess well..meh.  Oh well.
In Haiti for a week.
