2 Risk Questions
« on: July 07, 2011, 08:37:25 PM »

I have two questions regarding Risk.

1.  I am looking to get replacement armies for the classic style Risk.  Hasbro offers replacement pieces here, but I want to make sure I'm not ordering from the updated (bad) version of Risk.  Does anyone have any experience ordering replacement pieces from Hasbro?  Or, do you know of a good place where I can find about 20 infantry for each color?

2. I was at Toys'R'Us last weekend and saw that there was a classic style Risk that was recently made as well as the updated version of Risk.  I had and sold the updated version because it was really bad but was wondering if anyone knows about the other recent version of that looks to be more like the original?

Thanks
May you prosper greatly!

I don't understand why you consider the new revision of Risk to be "bad".  For starters, all the new gameplay elements make the game play faster and give the player more - and more meaningful - choices, rather than just go here, kill these guys, repeat until all dead.  Second, you can just play with the classic rules anyway.  Is this just about the small plastic arrows they use instead of sculpted miniatures for armies?

I'm not really interested in discussing why I didn't like the updated version.  The pieces as well as the game play changes are why I don't like it.  I like the original better.

As far as ebay goes, all the prices are more than what Hasbro has replacements for.

<shrug> You can still play the original rules with the new copy.  I don't blame you for balking at the chevrons, though.  I'm considering a combined copy of the game using minis from a different version.

Frankly, I think Hasbro has done an amazing job breathing new life into a lot of stale titles from the old Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley lines.  If you didn't like this, you'll probably hate Battleship Galaxies.  Which is a shame because it too is awesome.

Sean, which original pieces do you want?  The really old original wooden cubes or the triangular plastic originals?

I think I've confused you, STAMP.  I'm just looking to replace pieces for a 1990s version of the game.  When I say original I mean prior to the recent update, the style that you can't buy new for less than $100 any more.  (which is another reason why I have questions about the recent version that looks like the original).  Basically an auction like this or this or this if the price is right is the style of armies I'm looking for.

I'm playing with 6 year olds so the best pieces for them are the infantry, cavalry, cannon style pieces.

D'oh!  I done been RickRoll'd!!

I have a complete Risk game that uses the basic 6 color pieces you find in the first eBay link you listed.  We haven't played Risk in years.  You want the six plastic cases of armies?  I figure if I ever play the game again I'll use something else if I need to.  (Maybe pieces of candy so it becomes an edible game...hmmmm...)

That would be awesome!  Let me put in a spending request so I can at least give you the cost of shipping.  I'll also ask for $10.00 to buy replacement pieces so you can buy some candy.
May you prosper greatly!
